Default Factory letter question

last month Mr. Jinks sent my letter about my 1905 4th. change target...I included pics' of everything, and they responded very quickly. my gun shipped to Shapleigh Hdwe. St. Louis, 7/1/24, and is still all orig. they did not mention if it shipped with other guns. I don't think it was a single unit ship, but ????? what say the experts?

I joined the Collectors Association and the Historical Foundation.

The last letter I requested I asked for any additional information they could supply and they sent me copies of the original order.

Not sure if you asked for any additional info or not.

How long did it take to get your letter?

I think target models were more likely than the regular version to be single-gun shipments on special order, but Shapleigh was a large dealer and could well have stocked a batch.

Now that you have a history letter, you can always request a record check from the Historical Foundation. You are charged only if they find something. The process is explained on the same webpage as the regular letter:

Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation - Home Page - Insuring that the rich history of Smith & Wesson will continue for generations to come

I checked our files and there is no information on this revolver. However, I did find two orders for .38 Target revolvers placed after yours was shipped. Both were single gun orders.

Thanks for the laugh.

I joined to help out, everyone here has done tons for me.

I mailed off for a letter about 5 weeks ago. Hoping it arrives soon.
When it does I'll send in for another one.

In my collection, I have a 6" 38 M&P shipped indirectly to the Sacramento PD in 1940, and the letter stated in a single gun shipment. Have yet to see why the PD only ordered one revolver. This one appears to be unused too. Big Larry
