For You 38/44 HD Enthusiasts
Being stuck in the house like most of the rest of Americans, I was looking through an old 1954 American Rifleman magazine and found this ad. Notice the top left hand corner, and I bet I can tell what you are wishing. I thought I would share this picture here on the forum.
Take care of yourselves and try to stay indoors as much as possible.

Thanks for posting. I wish I had me a bunch of them Enfields rat holed away. I remember mail ordering them from the DCM before the FFA of 1968. They would just show up at your door via USPS
I still have one beauty that I got in like 1975

$44.95???? Bwah howdy! That's a little too steep for me! I hope that includes a holster and a few boxes of ammo, or I'll have to pass on that one.

I would have to go for one of the 1917s for fifteen dollars less.
I remember back in the '60s when a used M&P went for more than a used HD. Now it's the other way.

Not a bad price, even when you consider a 1954 Dollar was worth about 10 times compared to a 2020 dollar.

I'll take several of everything on the page at those prices . I remember those days but I wasn't quite old enough to take advantage of those prices Woolco in Nashville had wood barrels full of Arisakas, Endfields , Mausers and Carcanos from $14-$39 in the mig 70's .I did buy a few of those and several '03 Springfields for $75 or less .

So a rifle rack that attached to your front seat was available then. How long would rifles last on one of those today?

My brother bought this class A engraved M-29-2 from Gart Bros in alt Lake City.
It was originally shipped to a Gart Bros in Denver.

$44.95 in 1954 would be $434.35 in today's dollars, according to my inflation calculator app! A bargain!

I got a promotion so now I make $50/week. If I feed my family beans and peanut butter I should be able to afford one of these babies.
