Finally----.357 Magnum
Like many others, I have been wanting a 5-screw .357 Magnum, pre-27 for a good long while. The mail man delivered this one to my door today. It has the most common barrel length, 6", and it has a number of small scratches and blemishes. Even with them, it still looks pretty nice. According to Mr. Jinks, it was shipped in January, 1951.
The pics aren't the best. I took them outside and was not very successful in eliminating all the shadows.

A nice early one - great example for a first one. If you are like many of us, once you get it to the range you will be hooked.

Very nice Charlie. Took me a while to find one too. I like yours better than mine, yours is in better condition. The pristine examples get snapped up quick and price also shoots up over a thousand pretty quickly. Are you going to shoot yours? If so we are looking forward to a range report.

Beautiful - the photos make it look like the darkening evening reflected off of a calm summer lake with just a few small ripples here and there - liquid blue.

Thanks a lot to all you guys for the nice comments. You will have to take my word for it that this is "only" a shooter. Nothing wrong with shooters since that is all I own. There are quite a few handling marks and scratches on the gun along with a couple of blemishes. None of them are bad, and the gun still looks really nice. Like Richard said, the "liquid blue" of the bright blue finish does a great job of hiding the scratches.
This is pretty much the type of S&W I try to add to my "collection". I like to shoot my guns and I like my guns to look nice. But imperfections do not bother me at all. Now if Leo918 would just "loan" me his set of Keith Brown stocks so I could see how they look on my gun...
I have seen lots of Pre-27s sell for $1200 and way up. Most of the ones I have seen that sold for what I gave for this one are very used and much abused. I don't think I got a smokin' hot deal for this one, but I gave $800 for it. All I know is that I am now happy with this one and it brings me closer to finishing my "want list". Riiiiiiiiiiiight... At least that's what I tell the wife.

Very nice find! I'm thinking the barrel would be 6 1/2". I just picked up an 8 3/8" from 1956 to go with my 6 1/2" from 1953. They are just such gems. Congratulations.

6" barrel. I was pretty sure it was a 6"er, but I had not even thought to measure, just to be sure, until I saw your post.

Got it off GunBroker. It came from a shop in Florida. Shipped last Friday and it arrived at my door on Monday. USPS priority mail. Given the circumstances we are living with today, that is outstanding delivery service.

Richard, I had no idea you were such a romantic poet. Although I should have guessed that, knowing how much you love the artwork on so many of your guns. I honestly think that is the most beautiful description of a gun I have ever read. And I totally agree.

Awww yes. I was looking at that one too on gunbroker but live in Florida and would have to pay taxes. So after mulling it over I checked back with the auction and seen some joker named flinthillscharlie had put in a bid on it so I figured "well maybe he won't have to pay any taxes" so I will just let him have it without a fight. Now I am very happy I made that decision, the gun is in a good home. Enjoy
