Welcome and great first post, would it be possible for you to post some photos that are a bit clearer of what appears to be a 3 1/2 inch registered magnum, I'm sure there are several members here salivating on their keyboards at this moment.

Also appears to be engraved. Better pictures are definitely in order!

Welcome to the forum. That is quite a gun you have there. If you haven't already, I suggest you send for a letter of authenticity and then a query to the Historical Foundation to see if they have any more info on it. A lot of those old RM's have some interesting history that goes with them. By chance, would you care to share the Reg number that is stamped inside the yoke? From that, we may be able to tell you some more of its history.

And......We all love more pictures, especially close-ups.

I will definitely post more pics as soon as I'm back home. Those were the only ones I have on my phone. The gun is engraved, and everything is original to the gun. All literature, cleaning tools, bill of sale are still with this gun

The history of this gun is no mystery to me. It was purchased new by a family member in 1936 and was his duty weapon while he was a Texas Ranger.

Jv, do you know if the gun was factory engraved, or engraved after your family member purchased it?

Your killin' us here you know that don't you? To have a gun like that in your possession is beyond what most here could ever hope for and to have the provenance of the family history of a Texas Ranger LEO owned and engraved to boot.

Wow! Nice gun. Great heirloom.
Please tell me the name is inked out only in the pic, and not on the certificate itself.

Here are links to the letter of authenticity (you know to whom the gun was shipped):

http://www.swhistoricalfoundation.com/swhf_letter.pdf

And to the SWHF records search request; you need the letter above for this but there is no charge if nothing is found. Chances are very high there will be - the original order form, correspondence about the gun, etc.

http://www.swhistoricalfoundation.com/swhf_form.pdf

Great first post!

When I post more pics I'll take one of the back up gun that he carried. A 1901 DWM American Eagle test Luger which has a serial number that puts it on the Bannerman sales record as one of 1000 used by the army for field trials to select a new service weapon.
