J frame old style grips?
Does anyone know if someone makes grips like this for the j-frame? I recently purchased a chief special and would like to get some grips similar to the ones pictured. Thanks.

Are they for a twin to the gun pictured?
Because I think that is a Baby Chief I-frame, isn't it? If so that would mean it takes the grips that are 1/8" shorter.

That is a Baby Chief, but NO Chief was ever built on an I frame. They are all J frames. The Baby has a sh0rter grip like an old I frame, but it is still a J frame.
OP- what vintage is your Chief?

THAT'S what it was.
I knew there was something about the Baby Chief and the I-frame.
It is the TERRIER that is built on the I-frame, right?

When looking for the J-frame grips, take special note on the back to where the hole for the positioning pin is drilled. As said, the earlier ones were about 1/8" shorter, making the position of the hole that much closer to the bottom edge of the grip. The Baby Chiefs pictured by the OP is a J-frame with an I- frame size grip and smaller trigger guard than the later Mod 1953 J-frame had. That being said, I think the 'shorter' J-frames would only have been made for about two years (but the I-frame stocks will fit).
Here are pictures of the grips/Pre-Magna Service Stocks for the Chiefs Special pictured in the original post:

GrinningDag, please post a couple pictures of your Chiefs Special. We really like pictures, and we can help assure you get the stocks you seek.

As posted by members above, your "Service grips" or round tops are the exact same size and style as the I frame Post war Transitional and I frame Improved model grips of the same vintage.
Very early use (1946 to ~ 12/1951) issue for the Baby J frame shown and the two I frame versions I listed. I haven't seen rd top grips over #1024 CS. After that Mini Magnas of the same size were standard.
I have never seen and don't think there's any after market grips made like those. But because the .22, .32 and .38 S&W I frames are so numerous, originals are not that difficult to find.

I bought a J frame model 36 that left the factory in 1984-85. It came with rubber Pachmayr grips. Shot it and loved it but wanted original wood grips for it. Finally found them and put them on. Went to the range and shot it maybe 20 times. Rushed back home and reinstalled the Pachmayrs as the wood ones are painful to my old 82 year old hands!
