Default 44 HE 2nd Target

Hello, I acquired this revolver a little while back. Roy said it shipped March of 1927. All the serial numbers match and the grips have a different serial number. 27449 is the serial number.
Enjoy.

Looks like a great shooter. Unmolested and original.

I can say for certain that the grips are the correct style for the vintage of the gun! How far off is the # on the grips and is it penciled on?

Thanks Jim, I took a picture of the penciled in number. I'm guessing 17808 is the number?

S&W was selling the 2nd models and 3rd models at the same time. My 3rd, #28363, was in the first shipment to Wolf & Klar in January 1927.

I'm a fan of the 2nd Model and glad to see them posted from time to time. Looks like you have yourself a great shooter.

Well Everett, sometimes if the last digit # is just a couple different from matching we can blame it on a mix up by the assembler at the factory.

Buy those still look just right on the gun with the right amount of wear. And it's a shooter! When I shoot mine I usually put a pair of custom targets on it anyway.

Enjoy!

My 2nd Model target shipped 9-1921. Ser.# 17816. It has the non medallion stocks that are pencil numbered to the gun. It's a beauty too. Big Larry

Maybe if you drink enough Wild Turkey, it will start telling you exciting stories of its youthful experiences.

John Culina made those, Jennifer helped me with the design and wood choice. They are made to my specs on John's "Coke" profile pattern, she sent them out for fine line checkering. I hate the cliche of "fitting like a glove" but that is probably enough. They don't overwhelm the 2nd Model design which is my favorite of the series in a longer target revolver. Can't give anything but praise to the work this family does, a satisfied customer.
