Default My pre-27 and some pearls

A couple of years ago I stumbled across this 1951 vintage pre-27.
I would say it's in about 98-99% condition, stocks match and there's one small ding on the barrel, near the "WESSON" stamp. It actually feels smooth and looks blued, I'm wondering if it came that way.

Anyway, what really sealed the deal was these pearls that came with it--genuine MOP (I know the difference, these are 100% natural shell) with a 1/8" clear plastic (of some sort) backing that includes the half-moon.

I've never seen grips like these with the plastic backing so I'm wondering if any of you can help me out?

There was a third pair of grips with the gun as well, checkered walnut target type grips, they look like Herret's but I'm not sure.
I'll dig them out of the box and post pics soon.

Well, what do you think about the grips? Anyone know who made these? They're not for sale but I wouldn't mind hearing what you think they're worth (I have an idea in mind).

Thanks for letting me share!

I have seen very similar (if not identical) grips with black plastic backings instead of clear, but that is the extent of my knowledge.

Default Wood N-Frame Target grips

Here are the wood target grips--there are clearly 3 "stab" marks on the insides, the right hand grip has a relief for the sideplate screw, there's a window cut in the frontstrap for the main spring tension screw and I just noticed that the bottom of the backstrap has a different, radiused cut (for lack of a better term) rather than a square cut. Any ideas who made these, and what kind of wood is that? I don't know if I've ever seen that type of wood before.

Thanks for your help and indulgence (picture heavy)!

Default Pre-27 w/pearls

Here is a set of MOP that came on a 22/32 HFT that I bought many years ago. They were beautiful on that gun. However, the gun is about mint, so I put correct grips on it. White plastic of some sort is what the spacer is made of. It works!

I am not sure of the wood, but those are Herrett's target stocks. I have a couple of pairs - one set for my pre-27, the other for my model 14. Enjoy! I like the MOP's as well!

They do look like Herrett's but do your stocks have the same window cut for the strain screw and is the backstrap exposed? The website pic doesn't show those details.

Sure look like Herret's to me. Here are some Ks that came to me on a 14-3. Not exactly the same but the work sure looks comparable; the "stab" marks are present on the right inside panel as well. And these are clearly Herrets given the stamp on the left inside panel. Very nice target stocks though.

One set of my Herretts has the strain screw relief cut, but not the open back. The other set has the open back, but no the strain screw relief cut. Both have the diamond cut checking that look like the checkering on yours. If yours aren't Herretts, I would say that they are pretty decent knock-offs.

I seem to recall that "Cloyce(?)" grips were similar to Herrett's--anyone familiar with those?

Default Pearls

I love your MOPs. You donít see N frame ivories often, or at least I donít. I have 1 pair of N frame ivories, about like yours. I think I paid $225 or so. K frame ivories are less, $125-150. Mine donít have the washer, in fact, thatís the first one Iíve seen. Dave

I think that since it's almost impossible to find MOP thick enough to make N frame grips, a backing is used with a thinner material to prevent it from cracking.
