A very nice M&P Target to share.
Everyones out for the coming holiday where we pay tribute to all service folks, past and present. Never forget them. They are Americas truest hero's.
Here is my beautiful M&P Target revolver from October 1934. No letter yet, but whoever owned it, took real good care of it. 100% matching numbers. Big Larry

Someone did take care of that gun.
Have you lettered it? It's so clean it must not have been used often.

That's a nice M&P.

I hate to nitpick, but Veteran's Day honors all vets, living and dead. Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while serving.

Beautiful gun! Hardly ever see them. As many as you have to letter perhaps you should join the SWCA and SWHF; save $25 on each letter if I remember correctly. Pays for the memberships fairly quickly.

Muley Gil beat me to it, but I'd like to add a comment to his post.
As a Vietnam vet, I do appreciate the good feelings toward all vets. But, it is better saved for the autumn event. On Memorial Day we should focus on those who gave their lives for our way of life in the various foreign engagements. I lost friends in Vietnam who were simply doing their duty for us all. Please let us emphasize their gift to us on this important day. May they rest in peace.

Hi Larry, beautiful example of my favorite S&W revolver. I have strayed from them occasionally but have always come back. Still have my first, only ever sold one and have regretted it ever since.
I'll bet it shoots might fine indeed ! Thanks for showing.

That's a beautiful example Larry. Here is my .38 M&P Target Model that shipped in 1927. It lettered to a gentleman in Seligman, Arizona C/O the "Fred Harvey Lunchroom". I assume that was part of the Harvey House at the railroad station and may have been shipped railway express. Unfortunately the man had a very common name and I was not able to find anything about him in the 1920 or 1930 online census records for Maricopa County.

Big Larry, great target model. You have a keeper there for sure. Thanks for your service by the way. I'd disregard the passive aggressive comments you've received from some members quick to school you on US holidays. Pretty certain you know the difference between veterans day and memorial day. If you'd forgotten well you know now thanks to the PC police. This forum used to be a lot more collegial than its becoming these days. Nice M&P you have there and I'd be proud to own that one too.

Seligman is in Yavapai County - perhaps there would be some census records there?
Love the guns gentlemen!!!
This is my most complete package. It shipped in December 1930.
All the best this Memorial Day weekend and a respectful thank you to all the fallen warriors of battles past.

That's a very nice gun, Larry! A sock drawer resident for sure. Congrats!
Mine's a little older, but still very accurate.

To all, being a former Marine, I do know the difference. Just had a brain lapse. To all service folks, I am grateful for your service to our country.
My Dad and his 4 brothers were all in WW2. 3 of the 4 were Marines as was my Dad.
They all survived without a scratch, but one Uncle that was in WW2, Korea, and Viet Nam, has two Purple Hearts both from Viet Nam. Semper Fi, especially to those who gave all.
Big Larry, 1823181, USMCR 1811. (60-68).

Something interesting about the subject gun of this thread. Here is a picture I put together, of the grips on most of the the other guns in the thread, plus another one of mine.
Look at the color of the wood, on all the grips. The subject gun is much much darker. This is curious, because generally the quality and availability of the walnut was becoming less and less as the years went on. It looks like, but of course I can't be sure, that the dark grips have been stained. I don't have any guns in my collection with such dark grips. Even the diamond around the grip screw is very dark.
Regards, Mike

I’ve got a nice M&P Target but no letter and I’m not sure if the grips are original to gun.

That is a nice pair of stocks, as one can see the grain lines running all the way through the panel, from top to bottom. And, a lot of nice color shows up, also.
If I can have the serial number (last two digits can be xx), I can estimate a date.

We have talked about this before. There is absolutely no evidence of the stocks being stained. There is no residual at all. Big Larry

Might just as easily be the lighting or background color in that specific photo. Could also be a gun that someone took very good care of and wiped the gun stocks and all with RIG, have know several people over the years that did that every time they or anyone else handled the gun.
I would be very happy to have that at my house !

The revolver shows very little use. I am happy to have it in my house even if the stocks were stained, but I really doubt they were. Thanks,Big Larry

My 4th Change Target dates 1919, and it is about 1200 guns after heat treating started. Seems to match the 1921 grips shown here.
