Welcome to the Forum.

The Model 30-1 has a round butt. Your revolver has a square butt and should be marked M31, unless is was built pre 1958. Your SN is pre 1961.

Another member with more knowledge than I should be along soon.

It doesn’t have a model number inside the yoke so it is pre ‘58 then?

Welcome! This is a .32 Regulation Police. The upper sideplate screw with the elongated trigger guard puts its age between about 1953 and '56.

If you can share how much you paid or the asking price that would help. Also, if the left side is as nice as the right.

Thanks for the extra photos. It is worth considerably more than you paid for it! For insurance purposes I would probably guess its value at about $500.

Here is a good thread with more information:

Welcome to the forum.

You have a "Model of 1953 .32 RP", 4 screw, built on the New I Frame. It became the Model 31 in 1958, and the Model 31-1 in 1961 when it was changed to being built on the 1/8" longer J Frame.

Your # 635xxx was likely shipped in the first half of 1956 because it still has the older style pre 1953 hammer spur shape and 2nd style flat latch cyl release. S&W didn't build or ship in serial # order, therefore we have to resort to its features for its age.
