Default New acquisition!

Thanks to "ordnanceguy" I've just received a very nice Model 1905 4th change nickeled M&P! The cherry on the cake is that it dates to August 1939 - my birth year!

Just took some photos and thought I'd share them with you!

John

That's a real beauty. You don"t see them
around like that these days. The essence of
old school S&W craftsmanship of a bygone
time. I like blued Smiths, but that one sure
rings the bell! Great addition for you.
Don't try to shine the nickel off of it rubbing it too hard and don't play with it too much tonight.
Great score!
Best Randy..

Simply stunning, and I could most certainly make an exception for it in my Pre-Victory/Victory model collection!

Awaiting more overall pics of that thing to say the least.

I picked up a factory nickeled 10-5 last year with the box and paperwork, which was just too tempting to pass up price wise. Unfortunately it has nowhere near the beauty and character of your earlier example. (My example looks to have never been polished by any previous owner and every time I see a beautiful highly polished factory nickel I get the urge to get busy polishing mine! Unfortunately I am on the fence about polishing it for originality's sake.)

Color me very envious, and congrats on the birthyear as well!
Dale

A couple coats of Ren Wax on that beauty to preserve it. That is a real nice treasure. Thanks for sharing. Big Larry

Here's the back story on that beautiful gun.

When I was a young pre-teen, my mom and I were visiting the bank where my dad was working. The bank guard in the lobby was wearing a S&W nickeled M&P. He saw me admiring it, and asked my mom if it would be OK to show it to me. Assured that I would not touch it, she consented. That gun was the spitting image of the one displayed here. I remember it as if it was yesterday,

For years I'd been trying to find one like it for my personal collection. By chance, ordnance guy put up a few pictures of two nickeled M&Ps, one of which was this 4" beauty. I told him of my interest, and he thought he might part with it, and named a price. I checked with Roy on the shipping date, and it came back to 1939, my birth year. That did it.

I just received the gun yesterday, and it was all I had hoped for - certainly rekindling a fond memory of a nice bank guard and the beautiful revolver he was carrying when I was a boy.

Of course the finish is mint, but maybe it's because I am an amateur woodworker; the wood is beyond excellent - the best I have ever seen. Looks brand new - perfect checkering. WOW. Poster child for absolute perfection. Never seen one that good down in the Arkansas.

Well, I know from Roy Jinks that this gun left the factory in August of 1939, but I really want to know more about where it went on its original journey.

So I fired off an authenticating letter request yesterday. I can hardly wait for it. In those days the gun could have gone directly to an individual, or more probably to a distributor - but who knows.

It would be a miracle, but I would be delighted to know if it was shipped to someone in Phoenix where I first saw one like it as a boy!

I was one of those kids that never looked at police in the eyes, just stared at & admired their guns! I even had to call police to report my vehicle had been broken into. I was staring at his Glock & at least 5 spare mags on his belt. I finally had to ask what caliber? He said 10 mm. There I was, 62 years old at the time, staring at a cop's gun. He was a pretty nice young guy; I just told him I like handguns & was glad I never keep any in the car without me. I just didn't want to creep him out!
That shiny gun up there sure is nice!

John,
Many have remarked that your gun looks new. I don't know if there is such a thing, but that stunner looks BETTER than new!! Maybe prettiest nickel and wood I have seen.
