Default 1950 5 Screw ID help

I was wondering if someone could pass along any additional information on this SW 1950 .45 6 1/2" SN is S 97787.
I believe it is 5 screw. 3 showing on the side, 1 under the grip and one on the front of the trigger guard.
I am not familiar with the target hammer and trigger or how to identify any other manufacturing varieties produced at that time
Thanks

Hammer and trigger should be .500" wide. The varieties of 1950 would be the Target in 45 which you have, the Target in 44spl, the Military which would the same gun but fixed sights in 45. I dont remember if there was a fixed sight 44spl. There are a couple of rarer variations

I would guess your serial number would place it about 1952-1955.

If it looks like the one pictured below, then it is a 1950 .45 Target Model (Light Barrel) "Pre-Model 26".

# S97787 is too early to have a wide target trigger (not introduced yet), unless it was built/shipped later and out of serial # order more than usual.

In case anyone is maintaining a database on these, my letter from Mr. Jinks states my Pre-Model 26 bearing Serial number S 97853 shipped from the factory on October 20, 1952 on its way to California Hardware Company in Los Angeles.

Model of 1950 .44 Military with 6.5-inch barrel. S105765. Estimated about 120 made. This one is far from pristine. Probably should get it lettered.

Yes. Pretty rare pre Model 21 with long barrel. About 1200 made in all barrel lengths between 1950 & 1966 when discontinued.

Recently acquired .45 Target Model of 1950. Serial S84556 dates it to 1952

Grips do not number to the gun.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Looks like we are two of the few to own one of these. Yours is the second 1950 .44, 6.5" I've seen. I bought this one at a Sheriff's auction 20+ years ago. It appeared to have been virtually unfired when I got it. I've only put about 25 rounds through it. I recently added the T grip now anticipating a trip to the range.

I've never seen another in the wild, but beleive a couple of other members are holding.

Found mine at the Poulin auction several years ago. It had been incorrectly listed as a Third Model, and the evaluator didn't know the difference. I was tickled when I looked it up in the SCSW. Almost made up for the M1950 Target .45 I passed on a couple of years prior because, "Ah, I already have a M25-2."

Mine dates to about 1954. Fun to shoot.

Just so the “other” Military 1950 does feel left out, her is my 1950 Military Model in 45 ACP.
