Allie Townsend's Ladysmith
I was looking at the latest issue of Texas Highways, the travel magazine of the Texas Department of Transportation. They had a brief article about the Bryan Museum of Galveston having a S&W Ladysmith .22 carried by Allie Townsend, the first female Texas Ranger. A few things lead me to believe that she was more an "honorary" Ranger, but whatever.
Anyway, here is the museum's discussion plus another picture of the Ladysmith and gunbelt.

I suspect, like a lot of Texas women, that she knew how to use that Ladysmith effectively. That part of Texas was pretty rough in those days.

That museum is OUTSTANDING !! If you visit Galveston or are even near it, make it a point to visit. You will not be disappointed.

I have been to Galveston only twice, neither recently. I didn't know about the Museum before reading the article in Texas Highways. Apparently they have a huge collection of Texana there.

If I remember the story correctly. The Rangers were trying to catch a gambling operation located at the end of a long pier on the Galveston waterfront and a couple of Rangers used their wives as cover to gain entry. One couple was the Townsends and yes more or less an honorary title for the spousal assistance.

I clicked on the link and it says Smith & Wesson as does the tag above the gun in the actual display.
The artist is listed as COLT so not sure what that means?????
