Default Can someone help with year of mfg.

My father's pride was a "K" 22. I learned to shoot with one. I recently had it restored and was told it was a very early model. Dad was killed in Korea in 1950 so there was no one to ask. The S# is K 688XX.

Thanks in advance!!!

Welcome (back)! The K-22's serial number dates it to late 1948. Hope it brings back fond memories of your father .

Thank you! I was 6 months old in 1950. The K is one of the very few facsimiles of a memory I have of my father. I will say I felt something when the restored gun was handed to me...maybe what my father felt when the salesman first handed it to him.

So I assume you have a 6" barrel, which is properly known as a K-22 Masterpiece revolver. The 4" barreled K-22 Combat Masterpiece was not available until 1949. The 1948 date would have been the year the gun was manufactured, but ship dates could be from 1948 to 1950. Great guns, but you did not post an image of your refinished gun? Just so you know, restoring a gun eliminates most of the collector value, but I am sure you will not be getting rid of it anytime soon.

K685xx shipped in 4/49. The 1948 manufacturing SN range is given as K18,732 – K73,121.

For a family heirloom as dear as that K22, I suggest you get a factory historical letter to keep with the gun. It will tell you where it was shipped, when and in what configuration . Your descendents will appreciate that! May your Dad rest in peace ! Ed ( an old Korean disabled vet that survived and came home. )

Shout orders to an old man will ya? You ought to know better.

I don't have any pics of the restored gun. It never crossed my mind to take any. Hell, it isn't worth anything to the rest of the world now anyhow.

Here are two pics: One was taken when the K and I both were very close to being new. The inscription on the back reads "my two loves". It was taken circa Dec 1949. I have a matching photo of my new born son.

The second pic is one of the only photos I have of my father and I together. It is dated 27 Nov 1949.

Thank you for the answers, suggestions and criticism. Also, thank you for your service.
