Hi all, my LGS has a pristine, 99%, model 10 no dash with the snub nose barrel. The revolver has a square butt, and the bluing is much deeper than the bluing on a couple of my 1970s Magnums. There isn't even any wear on the end of the barrel, it looks like it was kept in a sock drawer. Serial number is C499xxx. Question: They are asking north of 600 dollars for this, But it is immaculate, is that a high price to pay? I assume this is from about 1959? The lust-factor is very much in effect for me on this. Almost forgot, the grips are excellent as well, diamonds.

As you describe it, the price is reasonable. It is probably from toward the end of the "no dash" era (1961?) and the bluing on these was really nice, close to the 1930s level of finishing.

The collective will probably recommend you buy it. Good luck in your decision.

I think it shipped 1961-62. Those are pretty hard to find around here & wouldn't last long on a dealers shelves.

I prefer the round butt in the Model 10 snubbies and I believe I’m in the majority in that regard. That being said I’d value it closer to $500.

Okay, I also posted about a 25-2, and I'm going to make them an offer for both the 25-2 and this Model 10. I think I can get a 50 dollar break on the price if I buy both. They want 850 for the 25-2 with wooden box.

Yes, I'd probably value it at $500 too but when will you see another in that condition? It would likely go home with me for the $600. Good luck.

If the 25-2 is as nice as you say the M10 is, then its a no brainer; buy both, negotiate as best you can, but for $1450 both would go home with me. I paid $1000 for a 25-2 in the presentation box last year at the Symposium and felt fortunate to get it.

Given its high condition, if it's not worth $600 now, it soon will be. C499xxx indicates it was likely shipped sometime in 1960.

I went back to buy the model 10 AND the 25-2 and the 25-2 was sold! I should have got it this morning when I had the chance. I did get the model 10 though. Any light/white on the gun is light reflecting. This is under florescent lighting.

Around here that snubbie would have been priced at least $200 higher, but older Smiths are bringing big prices lately.

I think they just look Cool.

mint condition, cool configuration, great shooters......that $100 will not be remembered long....around here $550-600 for one that nice!

Whenever I paid more than I thought a specimen might reasonably be worth, I called the extra cost "ownership insurance," and considered it part of the package. If I didn't pay the premium, someone else would own the item. I haven't regretted a single dollar I have paid over the years for that insurance.

Within reason, I have paid premiums for quality pieces. Both of the M10-5"s in the pic are 1968, and could both pass for ANIB. I know they were both fired once. The 2" was a bit north of 600, but I was paying for condition. Serial # is D138. Probably the first day they started stamping the D prefix

Thank you guys! I have no regrets buying this or any Smith and Wesson (especially older models). Simply for the fact that I am willing to pay a premium for a lifetime of quality. The fact that the market value is likely to go up is a happy coincidence for me.

The price is a bit steep but not unreasonable. I say go for both as I very seriously doubt you will find another no dash model 10 snubby in pristine condition. I have two 25-2’s in shooter grade, 45 Colt and ACP. I wouldn’t sell either for a thousand+ considering an honest appraisal would likely be less.

I bought a 1946 build long action M&P 2" about two years ago in the same condition and same build configuration. Seller I bought it from let it go for $200 at an estate sale. I sold it a few months ago for a dollar shy of $1K. Buyer didn't want to pay my asking price so I dropped it $1.00. Told him I didn't have to sell and that he was more than welcome to walk away from the table. Also told him "Where are you going to find another 1946 2" M&P Square Butt that is unfired other than factory test firing. " He busted out 10 Ben's and I gave him a SBA 1$ coin I got at the post office.

I say BUY IT before I do.

First, even if the price is a little high, 2" K frames are exceedingly popular so for a pristine one you ought to expect to pay more. I sold all of my water stained 2" K frames and they each went for between 300 and 400 dollars even with the stains. So you did fine!

A 2" M10 RB was my very first CCW. Sold it back in 1981 when I bought a M60 to cut weight and bulk for EDC. That said, I've regretted selling it ever since.

That is a beautiful model 10. You will enjoy your treasure, long after you
forget whether you paid a little too much or not.

I believe David has demonstrated the wisdom you seek. It's puzzling when we see basically the same questions posed time after time-------"Is this a good price?"----------"Did I pay too much for this?"

Here are the only two questions one needs to consider------and that's consider; there's no need to ask them. The first goes like this----How long will it be before I get some more money? The answer is usually tomorrow---if not this afternoon. The second one is more difficult to answer. How long will it be before I get another opportunity to acquire a gun like this----if ever.?

How's this for a plan of action? Don't push your luck!!
