Default Post Your "Pairs" - and Thoughts on the Magic of Pairs

Terry's post on the Leo Rice 4.5" RMs got me thinking. For whatever reason, many collectors look for guns in pairs. Maybe it is the fact that we have two hands and it just feels right to have a gun in each hand. Maybe it is that there is just something magical about seeing a pair of guns lying next to each other or in a two gun rig, or in a custom case... Whatever the reason it is fun, at least for me, to see pairs of S&Ws photographed together.

So... this thread is dedicated to the posting of your pairs. I'll start is off with this pair of Factory engraved .357 Magnums that a gracious member allowed me to add to my collection a few years back...

and matched in/on their Huey custom case...

I'm very much looking forward to seeing your pairs...

Thanks for letting me share,

Pairs!?

They came in Pairs!?

Edit. The only handguns I have to make pairs were not made by Smith & Wesson. And they weren't even made in the same year.

Here is a pair of 4" .32 long sequentially serial-numbered target revolvers, in the 32-20 serial number series, made in 1910. They were ordered by a target shooter in St Louis. One was shipped to him, the other to another target shooter in St Louis.

The next picture is a pair of matched K-frame target revolvers, made up for Fred Miller, managing the service department, in 1940. One revolver is a .38, and the other is a .22 . The grips are custom Roper stocks.

The next picture is a pair of 'McGivern Model' 5-inch .38 N-frames, from the 1930's. They are a sequentially-numbered pair, and made as a pair. One is factory-engraved, as a gift from Ed McGivern to F W Millington, a double-action shooter of the period. When ordering a special engraved gun, such as this one, the factory made two guns, as a pair, so that if something went wrong in the engraving process, they could use the second gun! The backup gun was shipped one day after the first one, to someone who apparently knew McGivern, according to the factory letter. I acquired the second gun about 5 years after acquiring the gift gun.

Regards, Mike Priwer

Default assorted pairs

Nothing to compare with RK's but I realy like these pairs.
A pair of Outdoorsman, 1934-1954. Both shooters
Another pair of Outdoorsman both 1934, one for the holster one for the safe.
Two from 1951 one nice, and one nicer.

Don't have an exactly matching pair. These are as close as I can get.

Fourth Model 44 Targets shipped April and September of 1955. One had the barrel cut to 5" and the other apparently had a replacement 5" barrel swapped on. Maybe the last one they had since the other was cut.

Had RR/WO sights installed. Got wide, smooth triggers. How do they differ? One is satin blue and the other is bright blue. Very subtle difference.

What a great bunch of posts!!! I love all the pairs so far. This is a pair of Outdoorsman Revolvers that I had engraved by Phil Quigley and finished with a two-tone finish...

I was hoping y'all would stretch it into other guns beyond the "S&W Hand Ejectors: 1896 to 1961" Forum requirements. Now I feel free to play!

A M25 and a M27 "paired" with stocks from bgmntman:

I'll skip the M10 that wears similar stocks and just stick with the "paired" N frames.

But then there are these and I bought them as a pair but changed their matching Pearlite grips to faux ivory:

And I bought the Kareen to be a pair with the Browning:

The first pair of 44 Magnums (actually ordered as a pair) shipped by S&W in a case by Marvin Huey. True "pairs" are very rare. Click on the photo for a better look.

Only the bottom 2 were made by the same manufacturer(different years though, 1938 and 1941 ). But they are all P.08 pistols.

I like the $10 charge for consecutive numbers. In the late 1970s I tried to get S&W to sell me a consecutive pair of revolvers and they flatly refused. Said they don't do it. Colt told me the same thing.

There's something special about a true pair of identical guns, and I have nothing to compare to some of the beautiful guns presented here. My only "pair" at the moment is a brace of Cimarron SAAs.

Perhaps we need a separate thread for "sets", as that's a whole different category...?

Nice

No Photos but I've got a pair of three inch 66-3s.*

Got them back in 1988/89 when no one wanted 6 shot revolvers...... age of the "Wonder-9"

matched up with my 3 3913NL......

for a "full house" of the best concealed carry guns of the 20th century!!!

And IMHO the 21st too!!!!!!

*Also have a three inch 66-4 Found used and is my Laurel Highlands of Pa carry gun.

I am humbled by the majority of the contributions to this thread. Almost feel silly adding mine...almost.

Consecutively numbered pair of 629-1 1988 Iditarod Commemoratives

I also have the display cases and all the regular boxes etc.

These Model 22-4's were purchased at separate times. I liked the idea of having one of each in the "other than blue" finishes.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

... another reason that some of us collect pairs, is that we want one "safe queen" and one to shoot/carry without worrying about it getting dinged or scratched. Such is the case with this pair of 4-screw Model marked 28's (Highway Patrolman).

The top one is pristine - about as nice as you can find. The bottom one is two-tone, as it has been shoved in and out of a holster for years and years. The silvering on the shooter is beautiful and it is one of my favorite guns to to shoot and to pull out and wonder "what have you seen in your life"?

LOL then one of my pair belongs on the "Isle of misfit guns"

My 4" 28 is pristine.... my 4" 27 is about +90%. Bought them both that way!

I cannot speak for everyone, but I'd like to "look at them" and would love it if you would post some photos.

Perhaps we need a separate thread for "sets", as that's a whole different category...?
This is a classic example of firearm art. Beautiful guns, beautiful leather and Oh Lordy, what a tremendous presentation!

Default Nothin’ fancy

Some beautiful guns posted, Richard, and everyone else.
Here’s a pair of 18’s. One from 1958 and the other a 18-3, from 1977. The dash 3 was a trainer, used by the Colorado State Patrol.

The older M18 was a regular shooter until I found the 18-3, which had enough wear and backstory for it to become my regular .22, relegating the pristine 1958 4-screw to ( more or less) “queen” status. The queen still gets shot, but will never go afield in a holster.

Pre 27’s, both letter just as you see them - one from 1953, and the other from 1954.

Default a few more pairs

Richard, I don't have anything that compares to those beautiful engraved guns of yours, but here are a few not regularly seen.

First, a pair of bicycle guns, 2" on left and 1 3/4" on right, caliber 32 S&W

Post Your "Pairs" - and Thoughts on the Magic of Pairs-p6280173-jpg

Next a pair of model 16's, caliber, of course, 32 S&W Long

Post Your "Pairs" - and Thoughts on the Magic of Pairs-p6280178-jpg

Third, a pair of I frame target models, caliber 32 S&W Long

Post Your "Pairs" - and Thoughts on the Magic of Pairs-p6280181-jpg

Next a pair of M&P target models, caliber 32 WCF

Post Your "Pairs" - and Thoughts on the Magic of Pairs-p6280192-jpg

Finally, a pair of model 631's,2" bbl fixed sight and 4" bbbl target sights, caliber 32 mag

Post Your "Pairs" - and Thoughts on the Magic of Pairs-p6280183-jpg

And yes, I like Smith and Wessons in the various 32 calibers

You know, I clicked a "like" here and there and then stopped because I liked them all!!!!

The OP wanted thoughts - my thoughts are that it's always a joy to see guns that match each other, no matter what style, age, brand, caliber. Gun art, sometimes called "gun porn" around this campfire, is enhanced when there are two and three of the same thing.

From a practical perspective, if the firearms are shooters and not just collectibles, there is always something to be said for having guns that match, whether for competition or self defense. Clint at Thunder Ranch likes to say two is one and one is none in the case of fighting guns that might break when you need them most.

So I really do appreciate pairs, or sets, whatever you want to call them.

Then, again, I'm one side of a two set pack that my late, lamented, and quite sainted mother delivered a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

That gives me an idea for a fun thread in the lounge. "Twins".
