Colt .45s engraved by Frank Leaman of Mokelomne Hill, CA. in the '80s. 1920 and 1957 vintage. The 1920 gun is on top in first picture and on the bottom in the other. And the double rig I made for them.

Honestly, I don’t have much that compares to many of these pairs. Thanks to all for sharing.

Wyatt's .45's are just gorgeous. The engraving and that aged stag is just amazing.

So busy looking at all the amazing images I almost forgot I had something to contribute. The first pair are a 27-2 and a Pre-27, both 5 inch. Had to move the 27-2 a while ago to make room for something I wanted just that little bit more.

The second pair are Colt 3rd generation .45's, pretty much stock but sequential serial numbers. I do find myself smiling a lot when I'm using them. I hope you can see why.

After looking at all of these fantastic pairs I got to wondering if I had anything to offer. This is what I came up with: 2 not-so-pretty Colts, one a 1911 Commercial and the other a 22 cal Target Pistol(pre-Woodsman). What makes them a pair is they were built the same year, shipped the same day in 1923, to the same location of Chanute Field, Army Air Service and finally to the same person. They have stayed together for almost 100 years. They're not pretty but I think they are a pair. I'm still working on the complete history of these 2 pistols and will get them lettered.

There are some nice pairs on here. I have a few that I’ve come to trust and depend on but they’re working pairs and not particularly photogenic.
Working and paired because I have little doubt that if used the first one would be in “time out” somewhere so I like to have its twin ready to fill the line.

Richard, you got the title of this thread wrong. It should have been called "Heirlooms". There is just too much history and too much beauty in the firearms pictured in this thread to belong to just one generation. Whether its a plain working handgun or one of these stunning pieces, they all have a level of workmanship, quality and history that extends beyond their current owner.

Well Richard, since you started this thread by mentioning my 4.5” RM’s, I suppose I should add them. They are a matched pair of “.357 Magnums” shipped from the factory as a special selected pair on September 16, 1935 with consecutive registration numbers 447 and 448. The holster rig is a recent addition I ordered for the pair that was carved, lined, and laced by Bill Brown in Tombstone, AZ. I think you can click on the pictures for a closer look. These might not be a matched pair, but they sure look good together. A renickeled 1958 SAA, and a 1930 New Service in factory nickel. Both .45 Colt.

I had an arrangement with he Performance Center many years ago. It started with the Case-colored Heritage guns, when I was promised issues with the same serial #. That ended with 9 revolvers, and when new guns were announced, I would get a call asking if I wanted them sent to my local dealer through Lew Horton. Naturally, I said yes....here are some.

The only “pair” I think that qualify are my ruger maximums. I have lots of S&W models that are the same barrel length but no two are actually the same gun.

Big fan of chemistry and biology, and after trying to formulate an intelligent post about enantiomers or symmetrical bilateral anatomy, I ended up with analysis paralysis. Seems the magic of collecting pairs is an awesome artistic way to express our creativity through the S&W collecting passion! And I feel much more balanced with one in each hand.

I have two 627 PC revolvers. Yesterday, I asked the boss if it was ok for me to get a left and right hand holster for them and wear both. Maybe he thought I was kidding, but he did not say no. I have two UM84R holsters that are switchable to right or left handed. I am not on uniformed duty right now, but when I am, I'm going to set up a completely symmetrical rig for them. Holster, moon clip pouch, handcuff pouch, belt buckle, handcuff pouch, moonclip pouch, holster. 16 rounds of 357 Magnum without reloading. I love it.

WOW!!! They each looked beautiful individually, but together, they really bring out the best in each other...

I look forward to a dedicated thread with a bunch of photos.

I didn't notice this before but that belt with those guns, and if I counted correctly, ONE HUNDRED rounds of .357 Magnum ammo plus 12 rounds in the cylinders, is a walking armory!!! It also probably weighs a ton. But man... it pegs the Cool Meter You could be dressed in a flaming pink spandex leotard walking down the street with that rig on and the only thing anyone would notice is the rig itself... BEAUTIFUL

Richard, Risking thread drift but you put the thought in my mind. I've had a close look at the image and I reckon there are 49 rounds in the top row and 33 in the bottom. Add 12 for the 2 revolvers then there would be a total of 94 rounds on the belt in total.

Now, as I remember it, those competitions as a kid growing up, where you had to guess the correct number of jelly beans in a jar, if you guessed the correct number you won the beans, jar and all.

Elmer sported a leather rig like that but I do not recall what revolvers he carried with it. Perhaps Heavy Dutys or Outdoorsman.

Kevin, I believe you are referring to this rig and these guns. The holster rig is Berns-Martin with “Speed” holsters. The guns are Triple Locks in .44 Special. I will post them here because the pair of Triple Locks fit this thread perfectly.

Mario, correct, 82 cartridges on the belt plus 12 in the RM’s for a total of 94. Total weight of the rig with both guns loaded and the belt fully loaded with cartridges is 11.8 pounds. Sorry, even though you are the winner, no prizes can be shipped outside CONUS.

That's what I get for counting quickly... count the top row, multiply by 2 and add 12... But alas, it seems that I miscounted the top row and failed to take into account the fact that the holsters had to be attached to the belt somehow.

At least some of the inspiration for the design of your rig (or at least the photo) is in evidence when you see that beautiful Elmer Keith rig - except that your rig has a lot more "BLING" - and of course, more bullet capacity (did I count 58+12 on the Keith rig?).

Can't blame me for trying . I reckon the 4.5 inch barrels on that pair just hit the sweet spot in terms in terms of length on an N-Frame.

Also thanks for posting the link to the thread on Elmer Keith's Triple Lock's. Remarkable history as recorded by beetledude.

Here’s an interesting pairing of guns I’ve had built up to suit my tastes. I’ve shown them before, of course, but they fit well in this context. In blue we have a classic style K-32, built using a factory barrel and a Model 14-3 to pay homage to the factory built late production version of the Model 16-3. At the time of this photo it was wearing custom grips from Shofieldkid, themselves an homage to period Fitz grips.

Its mate in stainless is the logical development if S&W had retained its commitment to building the very best revolvers out there, a 327 Fed Mag (K-327??) revolver. Combat grips and adjustable rear sight by Austin Behlert complete the package.

For your consideration, a pair of K-32s, the traditional blue 32 S&W Long and the cutting edge stainless 327 FM.
