Default .22 Bekeart

I am partial to target revolvers, particularly .22 and.44 Special/Russian. I have also filled in most of the blanks in between with .32S&W, .32-20, .38S&W and.38 Special. I do not require "collector grade," usually happy with specimens in the 90% range. I have several .22/32 HFTs, but never found the early one in the condition I like at a price in my range.
This one is not in the condition I prefer, but it does fill the hole in my wish list. A true Bekeart, on Roy's list of the first shipment of 294 guns. Serial number 138466:

Yep a true Bekeart Model of 1911. And regardless of condition it's original.

143rd gun built and 116th serial # used.

Has the sight tang been repaired? It looks like two pieces.

Well, mine's more beat up than yours, and it's NOT a true Bekeart! This was shipped to Robinson's in NYC in March of 1917. Somewhere along the line the rear sight was replaced with an aftermarket type of some sort. Amazingly, it still shoots!

Good eyes, Jim. Yes, the sight tang was fractured and poorly welded. That makes two I would like to replace, this one and an early .32 HE target.

Another Robinson's owner! Here's mine, sent to Robinson's in '14 IIRC. Went back to Mama twice, once in '18 and again in the 40's- where it picked up the LERK.

Congrat's to the OP. Finding any first shipment guns these days is quite an accomplishment!

Mr. red9, that is a nugget. Not mint, but right as rain. I can see a boy shooting that down by the creek. Like alot of us did.

Mine is not a true Bekeart and was shipped from the factory to Sacramento, CA in June 1925.

OK I admit it, I知 a Philistine! My HFT is enough later to have come with the Regulation Police style of grips and history or not, it came from the factory like that and I like it that way. I certainly congratulate my friend red9 on his real Bekeart, quite a worthwhile acquisition, but I enjoy the HFT for its actual use, and the later grips fit me better. Yep, I知 a Philistine alright... I知 even shooting a couple of autoloaders these days. Can you guys ever forgive me? (At least I admit it.)

Hi Bob,

Those early sights are almost impossible to find as you likely already know.

But the good news is they weld back together very well when you have the pieces. Usually cheaper than a sight would cost if you could find one!

Also you won't have to be concerned about ruining the bluing, at least on this one. I've seen them micro welded where you can't even tell.
In addition, the sight serial #s will still match the gun's #s.

Here are two specialists that micro weld guns:

Froggie,

Well my friend, easy to forgive even a Philistine for their grip preferences.

But shooting autoloaders? Now that's a horse of whole 'nother color! Oh well OK, because I'll admit my 5" field barreled Mod 41 and Colt 1911 pre war ACE (the one with 4 3/4" barrel, not the Service ACE) have seen action and dirtied up some at the range recently.......a private range where no one saw me except one other Philistine

This well-used one shipped 6/30/1911 to Mr. Bekeart along with 58 of its siblings:

I should have mentioned in my previous post here that I have owned 2 examples of the HFT 22, one with each style of stocks. I had no regrets when the opportunity arose to sell the target stocked example to a friend. He liked the 2 screw target grip style, and AFAIK he still owns it in that configuration. This is the perfect example of YMMV.
