1950's CTG Airweight
Just want help in determining age and value of a S & W 38 special CTG. Hand ejector airweight bodyguard.
Serial number 114973
has A C or G 5 4997 also stamped inside.
Gun is in very good condition

According to SCSW, 4th ed., the applicable serial number range (shared with several other J-frame models) ended at 75000 in 1955 and started at 117770 in 1957, so your gun is presumably 1956, although that year is not specifically listed. The other letters and numbers are so-called "assembly numbers" used to keep track of fitted parts during production and have no further significance.

In determining value, condition is critical. "Very good condition" means different things to different people. Post good clear pictures of both sides o the revolver and the experts here will help you with a value estimate.

CTG is abbreviated "cartridge." The 4997 is likely an assembly number.

The .38 Airweight Bodyguard Pre-Model 38 was introduced in 1955 at this approximate serial number 66000. The Airweight BG pre-dated the all steel version Model 49, ~first # 163051 in 1959.
The letters with the assembly # are inspector code stamps.
