M29 forward barrel rollmarks?
Anyone got a rough idea when this stopped? Saw a decent looking
M29 in the S185,000 range with these but think it’s a little late. Don’t want it if it’s a rebarrel. Thanks for any help Pete in CA.
Went ALL Colt a few years back but got a hankering for ONE nice
29 6-1/2 B.

The Model 29 your looking at is most likely correct with the forward roll markings. I have two model marked 29’s with 6-1/2” barrels and forward roll markings. One is S/N S185089 shipped 12/22/58. The other is S/N 196803 shipped 7/30/61. I hope that helps.

Forward roll marking? Off center toward the muzzle? Not sure what you mean.
Can someone post a picture?

I believe roll marking of the barrel about an inch forward was unique to 44 Magnums. The serial number range where this is seen is S170000s to S206000s, but there aren't that many of them. Some collectors like this variation in their collection, others do not.
