Default Question on Nickel M&P 1905 (4th change)

Good evening,

I'm a new member but longtime lurker. I have a few vintage revolvers and recently have gotten interested in the 1905 M&Ps. I stumbled across a nickel one this weekend (4th change) that is extremely clean but has no markings on the frame at all -- no trademark, no "Made in U.S.A." The S&W Catalog states that the absence of markings has been observed for target models, but makes no mention of the same for standard models.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

It depends on the serial. An M&P from between mid-1917 and early 1920 would not have either the side logo (suspended as a war economy savings) or the MADE IN USA (not adopted until 1922) on the frame. Are the barrel markings standard?

Thanks for the welcome. I'm glad to be aboard.

Barrel markings are .38 S&W SPECIAL CTG on the right and SMITH & WESSON on the left. Serial # is in the low 300,000s so that timing probably checks out.

Low 300K SN would probably place it at 1919, and it would have no S&W monogram or Made in U.S.A. stampings.

Post a picture when you get it. You don't see too many nickel M&P's from that era.

It's early days and I'm still poking around, but if I end up moving on something I definitely will post it.
