Default Rubber grips for my 2nd Model Hand Ejector

I know they´re not period correct, but I wanted to get some rubber grips for my N frame, 2nd Model Hand Ejector .44 Special.
They fit my big paws wonderfully, and now when I go out and shoot her, I won´t have to worry about wracking my middle finger knuckles on the trigger guard. Not to mention I get a better hold on them than I did with the almost period correct laminated wood regular grips.
But here are the pics I took just after changing the grips out.

Also, the reason I bought those grips is solely that my newly purchased Model 64-5 .38 Special has rubber grips on it as well, and they feel great as well.
Here are pics of my Model 64-5!

The purists have already recoiled in horror .

But those Pachmayr and Uncle Mike's rubber grips are sure nice for shooting. Enjoy!

Thank you!
Yes, I can feel the purist's cringing as we speak! LOL
The grips do make holding either much better for my big hands.

I have never been able to warm up to any of the rubber grips... they actually hurt my hand when I had them on my Model 29-2 and shot full power loads in it. OTOH, properly fitted wood grips work best for me both for control and comfort.

That said, grips are an intensely personal matter and what will seem perfect to me may be an abomination to someone else. If those grips are good for you Hawk, they’re good for you, plain and simple. My advice is to enjoy shooting your guns!

Thank you Froggie!
I, myself, do prefer the target wood grips for an N frame revolver, but I´m on a limited budget, and can´t see, right now, spending $60-$80 dollars on a pair of grips.
The money I spent for the rubber ones went to charity, so it's a win win situation.

Gawd those grips are ugly...I wont use them, but it's like an old carpenter told me once, "a thing of beauty is a joy forever. Sometimes and ugly thing works just as well." Your gun, your choice. If you like 'em, use 'em..

If you want to go "purist", and put period grips on it, but still have them feel exactly the same as what you have on there; find some Mershons for it.

They are proper pre-war rubber, and essentially in the same shape as Pachmayr presentation because Frank actually bought Mershon.

They aren't exactly falling off tress like old Pachmayr rubber grips are, but they aren't too hard to find, and when you do find them you may only have to give a $5, if that, for them. The fun bit though is that if you put them on your gun and a purist sniffs at you, you can school em, and say that these *are* period correct!

Yes, I agree, they aren't the best looking at all, but it changes the feel and shape of the grip. I can get a better hold on it now. Makes lining up the sights better too.
They just feel good, is all. They don´t look good, unfortunately.

Do they make the grips feel better?
Are they slimmer than the original wood grips?

While I will always prefer wood stocks, rubber does have advantages. Perhaps because I am younger, I find that some types of rubber grips don't look too bad on an older gun. For example, Pachmayr Presentation grips look nice on an older revolver, and give it a nice 70s period police look. They are basically rubber versions of target stocks.

However, the last pair I bought ten years ago, were not of the same quality as old Pachmayr grips. They were a tad softer, and had so much flash on them I had to break out my hobby knife. I wish Lyman would make them with the same quality that Hogue does with their rubber stocks.

Default period correct rubbers

I agree with sixgunstrumpet in that period correct rubbers fit right in with vintage Smith's and if they feel better to you then by all means...they are the way to go.

Over the years I've come by some well used M&P 4" 38's that may have been police turn-ins, or used by private security/armored car drivers/guards, etc. cause they were long missing wood service grips and had been wearing rubbers long enough to have pitting at the upper edges on the frame. These guns were not Model 10's, and I never really was interested in them (fair condition at best) beyond trading material, so maybe pre WWII, or early post war.

Guns are long gone in sales or trades, but for some reason I kept 2 sets of rubbers. Hogue Monogrip (poor mans "cokes"), and Mershon for K Frame...They both have tagged along to many gun shows...but never any interest (purists hate em, shooters don't seem to care).

Anyway....enjoy the pics.

The grips I bought for my N frame look an awful lot like the Mershon grips you show in your bottom pics.
There aren't any identifying marks inside, or outside saying they´re Pachmayr, or Hogue.
Hmmmmm!

If you wear the gun in this period, they are period correct. Purist collectors be darned!

I found a new pair of $2 round butt K frame Uncle Mike rubber grips and put them on my only round butt K frame. A 3” Model 13-3 .357. Haven’t shot it yet with them but they feel better than the high riding rubber Hague’s or the wrap around Pachs. I have laying around.
That nickel 2nd Model .44 Special is a nice gun. My friend has a 6 1/2” pure patina one that is a fine shooter with a very smooth action.

Hawk, I was packing this H.P. and shot a friends Spiegel equipped H.P., I immediately liked the way it felt in my longer than normal hands. They are also provide a much more secure grip which I felt improved function, he just happened to have an extra pair explaining that he thought Spiegel no longer made them.

I like the Uncle Mike's stocks for the BHP too...very comfortable. And they look good, in a business-like way.

I'm not positive but think Uncle Mike's got the rights to Spiegel's. High Powers have been a life long addiction for me, I've had at least half a dozen pass through my hands over the past 40+ years. The one I own now will be the last, I've made up my mind unless someone drops a nice C-code fixed sight model in my lap. First thing I do is put in a cylinder and slide safety and mag-disconnect, as well as slide release. I've had friends shoot my H.P.s and ask if they are for sale, get caught in a weak moment and let it go only to have to fill that empty pit with another one and on it goes. Never owned one with the tangent sights but after shooting them do not consider them of much value except to a collector. They fit my carry needs just that much better than another nice little piece...the Model 39.

Ah! I do like the classic lines of the Browning HP.
To me, with the rubber grips added to them makes them look like they're ready for business!

When I competed a comfortable grip was important. I tried Pachmyer grips and while they were comfortable, they shifted on the revolver and gave me two separate but overlapping groups. I went back to s&W Target stocks and shaped them to fit my hand.

The heavy barrel, blued revolver actually looks really decent with the Pachmayr grips.
