New to me "M&P" - some questions -
Hi everyone!
Just got a lovely older S & W 'M&P' in .38 Special.
I notice it does not have the 'Made in USA' Stamp lower right on Frame, but the serial Number seems a little nigh for this to be missing.
Serial Number 403161.
Roughly what year would this have been made?
MOP Stocks of course are old after-market ones.
No Stamps of any kind on the Grip Frame underneath the Stocks.

Sorry my images are a little washed out, overcast and windy here today, and the outdoor Light is a little wan.

The Made in U.S.A. stamp was added in approximately May, 1922. Your serial number indicates a revolver made (and probably shipped) before that time. Nothing unusual here. Nice revolver!

But pretty close to that stamp starting
Since you wanted a “rough year”, late 1921 is about as rough as you can get it. Production hit 400,000 sometime around then, an easy benchmark to remember.

403750 shipped on 6/9/22. It could have been manufactured several months prior to that. The MADE IN USA stamp started in the high SN 405xxx range.

It's the wan Light outside here today, and hard enough to photograph even on a good day! Lol...otherwise they are typical enough old MOP color wise...if maybe a little on the white side, but there is some Opalescence -

Ahhhh!
Thank you Absalom!
I kind of got it on impulse seeing as how it seemed to be in such nice condition, and has that BLACK as a Raven's claw 'Blue' they were doing for a while...and it just seemed like such a sweetie.
Somehow I thought the Serial Number range for the inception of the 'Made in USA' was a ways lower.
Good to know the "400" rule of thumb...I will remember it..!
