Need help identifying
Hi
I have a 5 screw, adjustable sight, 6" ribbed barrel and top strap 22LR revolver, pinned barrel and recessed cylinder, the stocks are serial numbered to the pistol.
Serial number K 38566
I've looked at at least 30 threads on here and don't have any idea when this was made or where it fits in. It is very accurate and a very nice shooter.
I have a friend coming over today to take some pics I can post later today.
Edited to add the barrel length.

According to the Smith and Wesson Standard Catalog probably made in 1947. A historical letter sould nail down just when, where and too who it was shipped

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! It sounds like a K22 Masterpiece target revolver from 1948. That was before S&W implemented model numbers. In 1957 it became the model 17.

I have one that's close
Agree...my K-22 (s/n 40403) was shipped in 1948. It has the 4-line address. As you said, the K-22 Target Masterpiece, sometimes referred to as a pre-Model 17, is extremely accurate and a blast to shoot.

My K 22 Masterpiece Letters as shipped August 1947, and is serial no K905.
If yours looks similar (one line address, LERK (Large Ejector Rod Knob), Magna grips numbered to the gun, matching s/n on barrel, cylinder, frame) then I agree it is probably 1948.
Also check your hammer configuration, mine pictured is called the "fish hook" but officially was known and advertised as "High Speed Hammer" by S & W in those post WWII days. This also defines the "short action" (notice hammer in full cocked position does not go completely to the back of the frame).
Anyway.....very fine piece, and quite valuable depending on condition of course. Do you have the original box, or tools that came with? Do you have any back story of how you came by this gun? Family heirloom, etc.
You know we love pictures too. You don't have to be a professional photog (witness my crummy cell phone pics).
Enjoy yours....I know I do mine.
