Default Quick Price Check: Australian-marked Victory. V 140???

Fella offering what appears to be an Australian marked 38/200. Stamped US Property on top strap, Vega import mark, and what he says are Australian proof marks on the right.

I've only seen a few poor pictures but the butt seems to have V140??? marked to the right of the swivel with barrel pointed left.

Don't know much more about it. Hope to get better pics, but it's a 60 mile drive each way and I'd like a better sense if price is fair. He's asking $325 which I think isn't a bad price assuming the bore isn't a sewer pipe and it all works like it should.

Thoughts? How's the price these days? (Sorry, can't repost pics)

If legit, correct, and unmolested it's a good price.

Heck the examples converted to .38spl for U.S. market civilian sale seem to be bringing almost that much these days.

A quick search of COMPLETED AUCTIONS on Gunbroker shows several UK 5" Victory examples actually selling in the $500 range.

Assuming the example you are looking at is in good shape, is numbers matching including the stocks, the cylinder hasn't been reamed for .38spl, and it hasn't been refinished I would say it is a pretty good deal.

The Vega-imported Australians are usually (almost always ) unmolested except for the FTR-owed phosphate- type refinish of frame and barrel. So original barrel length, no converted cylinder, original but often non-matching stocks that got mixed up during the FTR, and original case-colored hammer and trigger. Non-FTR’d original-finish Australian Victorys happen, but are VERY rare.

Since the seller mentioned Australian “proofs” on the right (where no such proofs, but the FTR marks are to be found), that’s what you can likely expect.

If it is in decent shape, 325 is a very good price. Below for comparison an FTR’d Australian I got for 375 a few years ago and was quite happy about.

I remember when these first came on the market ( possibly 20 or so years ago?) a member of my club that had an FFL was selling them for $95 each. Bought one. Should have grabbed a few!
