Hi,
It was a big deal in the International competitive pistol world and for Smith and Wesson when Torsten Ullman won the Gold Medal in Centerfire Pistol using a K38.
In fact, he set a new World Record of 586/600. The fact that he did this with a stock, out-of-the-box K38 was a proud moment for all involved.
So much so, that Smith & Wesson featured Torsten Ullman and S&W President C.R. Hellstrom in a feature advertisement.
In case you are unfamiliar with the course of fire for International Centerfire, it is very different than American Bullseye.
It is a 60 shot match. 30 shots slow fire in 5 shot strings each string alotted 5 minutes, and 30 shots rapid fire in 5 shot strings, the latter sometimes described as "dueling style". This stage is especially challenging. The pistol is held on the bench with the arm at a 45 degree angle. For each shot, the shooter has 3 seconds to raise their arm, take aim, and fire the shot.
The distance is 25 meters. All shooting is done using the one handed standing position.
