Cockeyed King Hammer
Are these things considered unobtainiom? I've noticed in past years that someone will from time to time offer up a large quantity of King sights, etc. but I do not remember anyone ever putting an N-frame cock-eyed King Hammer up for sale. Has to be one of the nicheiest of niche items out there.

I’ve seen them go up for sale occasionally but people tend to squirrel them away

I have seen a few on guns and sold, but don't recall ever seeing one sold all by itself.

Not ever have I come across one for sale.
Cockeyed hammer S&Ws are among my favorite guns.
Two of mine were converted to short action. I am not even sure if they would be compatible in another gun now. Been tempted to try.

It is my opinion that cockeyed hammers were an alteration of the original hammer when ordered by the customer. I don't think they were manufactured individually by King to replace factory hammer. Therefor not likely to be found as NOS. My opinion~

It's very likely coming off a gun someone wants to put back to stock or a parts gun.

Good luck, I’ve never seen a spare Cockeye hammer. Someone here has an uninstalled King Super Target Assembly, the full ribbed sight. Sometimes you will see a King Rear sight assembly.
I have pilfered away a Triple Lock Target, K-22 1st, 2nd Model Target, and Registered Magnum Rear Sight all in excellent condition... makes me wonder what happened to the guns and whether or not these sights were replaced with King Sights.

I have a 38-44 Outdoorsman with a double cockeyed hammer; however, it is not marked. I posted about it and the consensus was that King marked all of theirs, but others also did the conversions.
SO, if you look for one you might not should limit yourself to searching only for King, unless you specifically want a King converted hammer.

Thanks for the input guys, being that I usually shoot my double action revolvers single action I've always fancied the cock-eyed hammer. One of the advantages to having longer digits is that I can easily reach up without changing my grip, it would just make it that much sweeter to have a cock-eyed hammer. I've considered asking my fully capable gunsmith buddy to do the conversion for me, just wondered how available they might be in order to not mess with something not messed with in original condition. I do now have a cut down 1917 with a very well done front sight that mimics King's work which makes it a candidate for being messed with.

Try finding a double cockeyed, even on a gun!
If you have one made the key to the proper look is the teardrop at the back end and the two lines in front of the checkering; both can be seen here from the side view:

And there's the S&W factory version:
Smith offered a factory pre war custom wide spur target hammer shown below in a right hand 'cockeyed' version marked "Pat Pend" on the back side, under the spur. Roy states that this hammer was put out by the factory in the factory letter; an available option for an extra charge of ~$1.00:

And also the Micro-Site Double Cockeyed King copy:
If you click on the 1st photo to zoom in, and look real close you can see the Micro stamp in the dark color case beginning with the large M just below the hammer nose retention rivet:

I agree with SDH. I also seem to remember seeing pictures that some "cockeyed" had the entire spur was cut off then lowered and rotated to the left and rewelded to the hammer. It seems it was an article in the American Rifleman several years back.
