44 Military
Hit the jackpot today, refinished with perfect fit sambar stags. Super slick action, should be a hell of a shooter!

Here's mine. All matching, all original. Highest price I've paid for anything other them Reg Mags. I believe there were only 1200 of these built of which we are seeing a pretty fair percentage. Mine has been seen before.

Congrats to the lucky few, my birth year Grail gun is the Pre-Model 21 4th Model Military...1951 to be precise. I never want to hear a supercharged Ford flathead V8 and I never should see one of those .44s for sale. Trust me to end up with one of the rarest Smiths in my favorite caliber as a birth year gun. I've got my Grail/Birthyear rifle and lucked into that one: a Model 70 Winchester in 30-06 with an equally vintage Leupold M4 scope, still has the original butt plate. I had a birth year hot rod '51 Ford, flathead V8. I bought it in the fall of 2000, my wife would not let me drive it until midnight of June 1, 2001 when afterward I officially turned 50, the car and I were a couple months apart. All I did was work on it, start it but never drove it until my birthday. She's a keeper.

Are you speaking about your 51 Ford or your wonderful wife?
I am guessing both

Congrats Paul on a very handsome and uncommon gun, latter as noted. Also Congrats re the other handsome Model 21/pre editions shown! Wow!
My small 'Harem.' 'Pre 21', four gals. Three in 5", all in S149K, One 4" in S143K range! None as nice as some of the above guns! Pix below.
Honorable mention to my 5" and ~6" Postwar Transition Model 44 Military models. / Several 2nd Models. / 2 First Models! All .44 Spl.
All 'pre Internet era guns. Real hardware held in hand & examined! Each just as I 'happened on them'. Secret formula for such success as all it takes... About five decades of collecting!!!
Thanks for a great Thread
Best & Take Care!

You have a very good way to express it.... "pre internet era guns"! Just as you happened upon them.
And, they are the "four gals" in your harem.
Excellent!
I guess that would make GB an online dating service?
But, in all seriousness, I have passed on many, many online "deals" because the lack of a hands on evaluation just gave me a moment to pause.
But, to paul s (OP)....very nice.
In fact, y'all have posted some amazing winners!!

Wow, you may be the only one of us with four of these; and only 50 years to find them! I found mine by accident back in the late '90s and didn't know what it was but knew I liked .44s.
Have been looking for more ever since. Only one close that I've been lucky enough to stumble on is a 3rd Model W&K from 1931 four inch in nickel. Found that in a LGS a few years ago; they had it tagged as a 2nd model and priced as one. Takes lots of disappointing visits over the years to find a few jewels. Happy hunting!

Congratulations on a nice find!
I got this one at a gun show last year. Paid too much, but you don't see these very often. And yes! They are great shooters!

I have noticed that. All of my S&W’s are fitted that way except two. They have service stocks with grip adapters.
