Yeah BC38 it certainly did. It was aquired by the collector from whom I got it at an army auction some years back.
I suppose it never saw hard service, only duty guard at some army HQ.

As promised, the photos I finally took of the detent setup on the 2 1/16" Brazilian. Note the small corresponding dimple on the frame for the ball detent to slide into...
(For some reason they're sideways. That's dumb).

Back about 30 or so years ago when there were a bunch of Brazilians (“brazillions” of them?  ) coming into the country, I made sure friends and family got them, but then they were all gone before I got one for myself.  Just another example of “Ve grow too soon oldt und too late schmardt!” 
I saw one my uncle got in that batch and had just cleaned lightly and reblue (no real buffing.) With a set of later checkered magnas added it looked spectacular.

I was talking about Brazilian 1917's with a gunsmith friend of mine years ago. His father was a good friend of Val Forgett and had mentioned that Forgett got in on the early shipment of Brazilians saying that they were literally thrown into 55 gallon barrels without even so much as a topping off with motor oil and shipped out of Brazil. Which explains why most look like they were thrown collectively into a concrete mixer and given a thorough mix. He was surprised that any survived in good condition, mine has barely any Brazilian COA remaining after buffing out, the odd pit left that would require removal of more metal than necessary before rebluing.

That, sir, is EXACTLY the project I am considering starting, either with a less than perfect, blemished m1917 (commercial or US Army, don't care) or a Brazilian 1917, if I can find one with a barrel that doesn't look like a used-up Slip N' Slide on the inside.
I would welcome any and all suggestions on what gunsmith could cut down the barrel correctly and, probably more difficultly, build up a Baughman style front sight like yours. That wheelgun is simply gorgeous!

While I am sure there are gunsmiths in Texas capable of this kind of work, you asked for recommendations. Andy Horvath would be someone to consider.

Accurate Plating & Weaponry | Gunsmith In Newville, Alabama Bob Cogan builds custom guns and can easily do whatever you want.

Part of me has wanted to chop this one since I got it in ‘92, but aside from some pitting on the barrel it’s all matching and original.
Later I picked up a Colt 1917 and a 22-4 so I think this will stay as is.

That appears to be a commercial variation of the 45 Hand Ejector. I would not modify it either!

I’ve always wondered why these don’t hold the value you see on other n frames from this period. Weren’t there only about 25k shipped and only a fraction came back. A small quantity compared to how many were produced for the army and commercial sale.

Good question Jeff.
I think it is mainly because of condition or our perception of their condition.
They did go through a war, serving in WWII with the Brazilian Expeditionary Force in Italy, so they saw a lot of rough use. By the time they shipped to the US in the '80s, they had been in service for 40 odd years. That's a long service life. We need to recall that in all likelihood, corrosive ammo was used in them, at least early on. And, as mentioned, shipping, packaging, and handling for the trip to America wasn't what you'd call industry standard.
So they have always been viewed as second rate at best. I think that may be changing now, at least for the ones that don't have sewer pipe bores and crater-like pitting.

This is how it came to me, the front sight looks as if the factory did it and regulated it to provide a good line with the original rear notch. The other revolver in the first reply was a cut down Brazilian, that was done by my gunsmith buddy. He used his mill to carve the Baughman style front sight on it and also regulated it for use with the original notch, I added the Wondersight myself.

Of course! The early Brazilians were built on Commercial frames. That one is in good condition.
