S&W K-FRAME 38 SPECIAL

afternoon guy's, i'm buying a k-frame s&w 38 special revolver.
it is in layaway at the time.
can anybody id this revolver without seeing it?
serial# S827882 i think it is a model 11S 4" barrel, blue frame
from what i have seen on the internet, built between
1946-1948 post-war k-frame.
can't remember if it is a 5 screw or a 4 screw model.
i don't have any pictures to show it.
any more info would be good to have.. thanks

Sounds like a. 38 M&P from 1948 or earlier. The model 11 didn't start until 1957. If you got those numbers from inside the Yoke area, they're assembly numbers.

thanks for the info on the k-frame revolver.
i will go tomorrow and look at the revolver good with my glasses-on. i might get my money back on it..

What is the shop asking for this .38? If it has the original grips, numbered on the inside of the right grip, and the finish is decent, it should be worth around $400, maybe more.

Never heard of an M11. Interesting. If it's a K-frame M&P .38, then it's the forerunner of the model 10. I may be wrong, though.

The Model 11 was the Model 10, but chambered in .38 S&W for the British Commonwealth countries. It was built up to 1965, according to the SCSW.

That SN would place its probable shipment to be around mid-1946. It could be described as a post-war M&P. Model numbering did not begin until the late 1950s. Regarding value, that would depend greatly upon its condition and completeness (if refinished or missing original grips, its value would be diminished). In average used condition, $400 would not be far off the mark.

I am finding S&W's from that particular range are very hard to find. I have been looking for a 6" from that period for some time now, and not having any luck. I would seriously doubt a real nice one will only be $400. I am seeing nice pre war M&P's going for near $800. Yes, this gun is a postwar, but it still has pre war features. The post war "S" series long action are highly collectible. Big Larry

Yes. It is a postwar .38 Military & Police. All of the S827xxx revolvers in my database left the factory in May, 1946. I actually own one of them, with a 5" barrel.

It has 5 frame screws. The fifth one wasn't eliminated until 10 years after this gun was made.

The OP in his first post thought the gun was a model 11S because I suspect he was reading assembly numbers from the Yoke area. The model 11 was basically a modernized BSR that was introduced in 1957.

If the price is right get it. You will not hold a finer fixed sight K frame 38 spl than one of those.

This might be a great gun for you or a terrible choice. We have no idea what your purpose is. Tell us that and we can give you a proper answer.
