So this is the “Model 11” that kicked off this whole thread

As we said earlier, the serial puts it in early 1941.

This configuration, 6” barrel, is seen most often with the Canadian military mark. Pate lists a contract with Canada for 16,600 of these with the 6” barrel from June 1940 (meaning this would have been filled over the following months), so this likely fell into that batch. The next Canadian contracts in 1941 were for 5” barreled guns.

$600 might be on the high side. But it depends on the collector.

At the time, the BSRs were very much like civilian M&P revolvers made for the U. S. market, except that they are chambered for the .38 S&W cartridge. The finish would have been blued and the grips could well be checkered wood round tops with small silvered medallions. Shortly thereafter, the grips were changed to smooth wood with no medallions. At that time, the British were buying these from S&W, but later in 1941 the Lend-Lease program took effect, and the U. S. supplied them directly to the British Commonwealth.

Hopefully if you can add pictures, we can supply a reasonable estimate of value. They are not particularly common in original unmodified condition (many were rechambered to .38 Special after the war). Are there any proof mark stampings on yours?
I posted photos - have you seen them? Am curious about your opinion of the condition and value of the revolver.
Thanks, Mike

Default Model 11-4 S.A.P located in Australia

This SAP Model 11-4 has just come up for sale on a local Used Guns website here in Australia; $650 AUD. Serial number is C552686.

Looks a bit rough around the edges. I don't recall ever seeing one before. Not sure if I should go after it or not.

I'd go after it, but I'm a little soft in the head about the postwar Model 11 and pre-11 revolvers, which I consider collectable in almost any condition.

You might like to inquire of the seller whether the backstrap is stamped or unstamped. It may be a South African revolver that wandered, or possibly a direct sale from S&W to Australia. And just because I consider this collectable, I would encourage you to confirm the secondary serial numbers on the underside of the barrel, the rear of the cylinder, and the hard-to-see side of the yoke all match the serial number stamped on the butt.

Thank you for the new serial number, which I have now added to my very short list of known Model 11s.

I seen this one a few days ago and it's on its way to me 😊
I will post info about it once I have it in my hands. It's in poorer condition than I'd like however it's the only one I've seen here for sale. Like my straight side plate DA, one in poorer condition is better than none at all...
