LGS has a sweet little Regulation Police in .38. Hoping you guys can help me learn more. 4" barrel, serial number 33492. I'm not experienced enough to say much about the condition of internal parts but the bluing and grips look real good.

Can someone give me a date range on this? Are there a gazillion of them out there or is it somewhat of a rare find?

I don't have any SNs listed which are very close to yours, but I'd guess it is probably from around the mid-late 1920s. Someone else will probably have a better date. There were only about 55K of them made in the 1917-40 period and in high condition they are very desirable. What's the asking price?

32 six shot RP's are more common in my experience. Fun little guns.

I have S/N 25292 dated by Roy 9/1924

31170 was shipped in February 1928. 33875 was shipped in April 1926. And, 32516 was shipped in February 1929. So, likely the best we can say is it shipped in the late 1920's.

Not a bad deal if all the numbers match and it is in excellent condition.
I just bought two for $675 each shipped. One was drippy mint and the other about 98%+. No boxes. One was # 108, and the other # 22504. They are a very well built revolver. Just a baby M&P. Big Larry

I recently paid $550 for a .32 regulation police. I felt it is full retail but if it is really nice condition, how many are you going to find, not many. Mine is later (1930's) and in 32 s&w long but same basic gun.

How much value is there to having or not having the original box?

If a gun is in pristine condition and has the original box from pre ww2, to me it is then in a whole other category. It would be valued as ANIB and each model has this category but the value would be different for each model. In the S&W standard catalog 4th edition list Prewar .38 Regulations police in ANIB at $1200. I try to find and buy period correct boxes for all my pre model and pre war guns and they run from around $75 to $1200 depending on condition and model just for empty box but I think when paired with gun it adds at least that much value to the gun having both. Only 1 box can be the original so that adds even more value than just "a" box. The serial will be usually written in either pencil, or grease pencil on bottom of box pre war.

I have a 38 Regulation Police serial number 48195. That I purchased a local gun shop. The condition I only rate at fair. It has some type of Oriental marking. At the top of the grip frame to the rear of the hammer. I purchased it because it was the first one I had seen in years.

Would anyone have a born on date for 48195. Does anyone have any idea what the Oriental Emblem on the back strap means. I would appreciate any Info.
