Default S&W 32 LONG CTG

I am looking to purchase an old S&W revolver. no model # but has 32 S&W LONG or 32 LONG CTG on the revolver 4" barrel.
I am looking at two currently, SN 323719 and 677457.
Can anyone tell me the year of manufacture?

Thanx

Are you absolutely sure there is no letter in serial, they can be sometimes a fairly big gap between letter and number. Looking in S&W catalog the 32 hand ejector series has those numbers. The number starting with 677 would be around 1959-1960 and the 5 digit starting with 3 serial would be between 1911-1942. That is only true if they are indeed .32 hand ejectors.

Welcome to The Forum from the Wiregrass! The serial number 323xxx is from the 1920s, early in that decade. The latter number is post World War II. You need to post pictures for more information.

Welcome to the Forum.

There are two possible locations for serial numbers on the small .32 Long revolvers. The usual place is the bottom of the grip frame. The next likely place is the front of the grip frame. Numbers stamped on the frame, seen when the cylinder is open, are usually assembly numbers, not serial numbers.

Welcome to the forum.

#677457 is a Model of 1953 New I frame from the last quarter of 1958, and should have 3 screws in the side plate including the one covered by the grip.

#323719 Is from the 1920-21 period.

If they have round butts, they are 32 Hand Ejectors with 2" barrels.

If they have square butt grips over a round butt grip frame they are 32 Regulation Police models. with 3" or 4" barrels.

You have a 32 Hand Ejector; the .32 LONG CTG indicates the cartridge.

If the #15331 is from the butt of the grip frame, it's one of two models:

If you must pull the extractor rod under the barrel forward, to swing out the cyl, it's a "32 HE Model of 1896 - 1st Model" from the 1901-03 period.

It it has a button on the left side of the frame that must be pushed forward, to swing out the cyl, it's a "32 HE Model 1903 - 2nd Model" from the 1904 period.
