Great gun! Some years back a local gun show guy had a reblued Outdoorsman at a decent price that. I thought it would be a great candidate for an engraving job. Looking at your’s I can see I was very right about that.

If you gotta have just one, you might as well do it right.

bd, gorgeous OD! Do you know if the cokes are original to the gun? They certainly look terrific on it.

I have yet to find my 38/44 Outdoorsman but if I can find one half as nice as the op's, I will be a happy camper. That is beautiful, thanks for sharing it with us.

That looks as if it could be sold from a high class jewelry store. It is plain breath-taking.

Bruce:
That is an outstanding revolver!!! And Tommy Freyburger has always been one of my favorite factory engravers - plus he’s a heck of a fun guy to talk with.
I would assume that it left the factory as a blued gun, then was sent back by some wise owner to the factory for some time with Mr. Freyburger and a dip in the nickel plating tanks???
I especially like the engraving on the barrel surrounding the roll marks.
Thank you for sharing that beauty with the rest of us.

Here is the work sheet on this Outdoorsman from April 17, 1975.
I was able to purchase this gun from the man that had the factory 'upgrade' done on this Outdoorsman.
He is currently a member of this Forum.
He sent it back to Smith and Wesson and commissioned them to have this work done.
As you can see on the work sheet, dates are supplied, and, each item is addressed as to the 'changes' made to the original gun. And for all the ooh's and aah's the prices are noted also.
Tommy Freyburger's initials are engraved under the cylinder release thumb piece. I believe it is a wonderful sample of the works of an extraordinary Master Engraver that is 'Tommy Freyburger'.
I am proud to be the caretaker of this gem.
As for the stocks, I put them on in lieu of the smooth presentation targets as I felt the beauty of the 'Cokes' most definitely enhances the beauty of this piece of artwork.
Of course I just rent the stocks for photo ops as they are waaay to expensive to buy. JK folks.
enjoy,
bdGreen
Thanx Bob.

$500 was real money back in 1975. I was working for less than $1,000 a month at the time.
