That's called the yoke on S&Ws.

My dumb mistake, my 1st post #49 is edited. The # 284772 indicates it's most likely from the end of 1962.

All the back-n-forth about use of "weapon" vs. "gun" takes me back to the oft-quoted 'Nam era Fort Knox Sgt. that, upon hearing a recruit use the term "gun" when referring to his shoulder arm, would point at the rifle and rattle off, "This is your weapon." Upon completing that defining phrase, he'd re-direct his index finger toward the area of a particular section of the Pvt.'s body and say, "That is your gun." Pointing again at the rifle, he'd follow up with, "This one's for fightin."Shifting his pointer finger once again to the direction of the earlier-indicated body part, he'd conclude with, "That one's for fun."

This one appears to have only 2 screws, unless one is under the grip?... I have not had it apart as it belongs to my MIL.

That 3" flat latch is quite desirable , even if not pristine.

Nb4est,... I would like to recommend the film, Full Metal Jacket, dir. by Stanley Kubrick. You will hear that phrase shouted over and over in the film...

On the term Weapon,... Ive never sensed or noticed a negative connotation to the term. Some like them some don't,... but like most things,... we fear what we don't understand. I'm glad most here understand "Weapons"...

Yes, like a yoke of oxen. Some who haven't seen it in print write yolk,like in an egg .
