Default ~1960 model 14 - reblue?

I'm interested in buying this pistol, and the gun has original diamond magnas and looks very nice overall.
However, the frame roll marks look really faint. Do any of you Smith gurus think this is a refinish?

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! I'm not an expert but someone will come along shortly. I don't see any signs of a refinish in the picture that you posted. I look at the side plate seam to make sure that it's nice and tight. Also the flutes on the cylinder and the screw holes. Looks righteous to me. But I'd like to see more of the gun to make sure I'm not missing something.

Use a low power magnifying glass to look at the roll marks for sharp edges.

Or possibly show a better close up!

Thanks guys. I just added a left side pic. I think the swirls seen there are just reflections of the wild countertop.

Well, I just bit the bullet and bought it before it went away.
Thanks all for your opinions and good advice. Now I wait for the FFL-FFL time lag, and when I have it in hand, I'll post up some better pics.

No obvious signs of a re-blue that I can see from the pictures.

If it is re-blued, it very well could be a factory job,
looks nice from just two pics.

Question

I happen to think it has been refinished based on the weak made in USA stamp and the shiny finish. That really only matters depending on what you paid.

I hope you are happy with the gun.

That weak stamp was what raised my doubts. None of my blue guns I've owned since new are that weak. OTOH, I didn't see any rounded edges either.
Bottom line, when I'm dead and gone, I can't take it with me so I don't care what it's worth; I just want it to shoot good now.
We'll see in a week or so.
Thanks very much for your knowledgeable input; it's nice to know I've learned something from the gurus on this porch.

IMO, the 14 is one of S&W's finest for target work and small game.

I believe you will find it to be original. This was at the later end of the era of S & W Bright Blue being standard on all guns, and the I think the stampings appearing "washed out" is a lighting artifact. Please post a few photos in natural light after you get it?

Thanks and you betcha I'll put up a bunch of pics, for better or worse, just to try to pay back some learnings for all the learnings I've gotten here.

I heartily agree. I wanted a 6" and I'd want a 4" if there was one in a model 14. I've had an 8-3/8" mod 14 for ~45 years. Back then I used it to shoot revolver bullseye matches in a local police league. It was and still is a sweet gun.
