I recently inherited a k14 from my grandpa and as near as I can tell I can't find any Dash indications on it it has a k 219 XXX serial number and other than that I don't know for sure what it is can anybody help me identify this and do you have a serial number book that could indicate what year it is

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Your target revolver was made in 1954. That is before S&W created model numbers. If you can post some pictures of all sides of the gun, we might be able to tell you more about it.

If it has a 6" barrel likely a K38 Masterpiece. Essentially the same gun with a 4" barrel is the Combat Masterpiece. Both are sought after models. In 1958 they become the models 14 and 15 respectively.

As you can tell from the previous posts, there is no such thing as a "K14." Let's assume for the moment it has a 6" barrel and a Patridge front sight. That would make it a K-38 Masterpiece. It would have the wide rib, straight-sided barrel and five frame screws. As Guy mentioned, the serial number points to 1954.

At the time, it would still have been called a K-38 Heavy Masterpiece, and the end label on the box would have said that. That was a carry-over from the short period when both tapered and straight-sided barrels were used on the K-38. That actually stopped a couple years before your gun was assembled, but the nomenclature didn't disappear right away.

If it has a 4" barrel and the Baughman front sight, it would be a .38 Combat Masterpiece. Those did still have the tapered barrel.

I assume by K14, you may have assumed it was a Model 14. It is not. In the late 1950s, the K-series revolvers were given model numbers. Specifically, the K-38 Masterpiece became the Model 14, while the .38 Combat Masterpiece became the Model 15. But in 1954, model numbers were four or five years in the future.
