Default Pre-27 Opinions

I spotted the pre-27 on consignment yesterday at a shop about an hour from home. It was the first time I have been there since it only opened a couple of months ago. I didn't have time to get it out of the case and look at it but I'm wondering if it would be worth going back and take a closer look. S157XXX should put it around 1956. It's marked $1200. I have no idea if that's negotiable or not.

The left side looks nice.

If the entire finish looks good and it checks out mechanically, it’s a fair price, but offer $1K and see what happens?

I sold my 1959 8 3/8" M27 a few months ago for close to $1800.

I am not really interested in barrels over 6 inches, but since I don’t see many clean pre 27s and they don’t make em anymore, I’d probably give $1000 to $1200 for it; especially when comparing to current production Smiths that sells for about the same price.

I've got my pre-27 valued for insurance at $1,200, no box or docs.

Mine is serial number S 84XXX and Letters as shipping October 16, 1952 to rex Firearms, New York.

Good, solid, high end quality guns for sure.

I think well worth whatever is being asked, especially on consignment....sounds like the Owner really wants $1000, hence the 20% uptick for LGS profit & handling.

If you go in and insepct, and condition is very good, then offer $1000 cash, and the LGS I'm sure would call the Owner and recommend he/she accept, as you are a cash buyer, ready to take it out-the-door now, no waiting, no shipping. Maybe they counter at $1,100....you offer $1,050 OTD as final....I bet you walk with a fine gun.

Let us know, and pics of course.

They are great guns, and great fun at the range!! I know a lot of folks are not fans of the 8 3/8 inch guns, but they are fun to shoot. Now, get back in the car and go get that puppy, now!!! This very afternoon!!

I too would go back with $1000 and plunk it out on the counter. Chances are they would do it. Have 1 more 100 dollar bill in your pocket just in case. $1100.00 would still be a good buy but if they settle for the $1000 offer you get a good bargain. Good luck!!

If I'd spotted that gun yesterday, the other side looks as good, it would have gone home with me yesterday; maybe for less than the asking price but $1200 would have been ok too. A bargain at even more compared to the gun show prices I saw today; 27-2 3.5 inch nickel for $2700, a 34-1 for $900, 4 inch 629 (although P&R) for $1500; none with boxes/paperwork. Good luck.

Guess what? They aint makin’ them like that no more... That revolver appears to be a fine example. If it speaks to you, grab it, even at list price you would do well.

The fact it is consignment you should not have to pay sales tax.

That would be 80 bucks here in Pa.

Because its a pre model and does not have the front sight rash I think it's a nice buy.

I usually don't care for the long barrel, but that's a good looking gun...

I wouldn't pass up a gun that I wanted over a few hundred dollars.

The regret is not worth it.
