We should acknowledge that the photo in the previous post belongs to RKMesa.

I’ll add what little I can. I accumulate orphan tools and kits when I stumble across them, but don’t set out to collect these. I do know the above photo is missing the fluted flat ground SAT used from about 1960 to 1964. There are two of those in the center of the following photo. Differences in handle and shaft length are considered manufacturing variations, not design changes.

(L to R) 9 row steel, 8 row aluminum, fluted flat grind, fluted hollow ground, flat.

Early post-war rods were steel with a loop end. They switched to aluminum fairly quickly. The last rods produced were straight.

Early kits were supplied in a cellophane type bag, which were fragile and typically don’t survive well. Later bags were plastic. Early brushes and mops had brass cores and threaded sections. They changed to aluminum and steel, I’m guessing sometime in the early 70’s.

I would like to add a question without hi-jacking OP’s thread if I may: are these worth anything? Specifically the 9-knurled blued ones?

Yes, the pre-hollow ground sight adjustment tools can bring close to $100, sometimes more.
Check completed listings on the auction sites, you’ll be amazed!
