Default Another Oddball Victory Model...

Came across an oddball Victory Model revolver today, almost picked it up but it has some condition issues that have me concerned:

It is a V prefix serial number, V760,XXX range, frame, barrel, and cylinder all match. The finish is parkerized, grips are diamond magnas, in rough shape, I assume original to the gun, but didnt verify, and she sports a lanyard ring, no doubt in my mind that this is in indeed a Victory Model.

Here's my concern: the barrel has been cut down a d recrowned at around 3". A new front sight has been added, but it looks like the type of front sight you might find on 22 rifle, rather than having the original put back on. The cut down and crown looks to be done right, but the sight doesn't. It does not look to have been installed square with the rear notch. Also kinda concerned that it was glued in place as I see no other means of attachment evident.

I thought I had read somewhere the military had cut some of these down over time, though I'm not sure what to make of this one. Asking price is $300, not sure there's that much value there.

Thoughts?

It is probably just one of a legion of chopped surplus BSRs rechambered for .38 Special. Grips are not original, Magnas were never used on BSRs. I would expect with a SN that high, it would be from late 1944 to early 1945. In any event, one of the last of the V-series. The military NEVER cut them down.

Use your money for something better.

It's an odd combination for one of the BSR re-imports - usually these have barrels cut to lose the front locking point for the extractor rod, nickel finish and plastic stag-like stocks.

It is possible it is a fairly complete/original gun with a bulged barrel that someone chopped. Knowing if it chambers .38 Special fully is probably the key question.

That does sound like a bubba job. Some British companies, like Cogswell&Harrison and Parker-Hale, shortened and converted Victorys and added new differently shaped front sights, and their own grips, but if this one has diamond magnas, still has the swivel, and the utility finish, it isn’t one of those.

Run. Run fast. It's junk. For $300 to $400 you can get a nice M&P that is reliable.

Don't worry, I did just that, wasn't sure what to make of it...

Thanks all for the advice.
