Everyone knows I have a fondness for Model 27 lineage revolvers. I got this one about 10 or 12 years ago at a local show. When I entered there was a small group of known S&W fans (one of whom is a member of this forum) gathered at a table discussing a pre model 357 on a table in the back of the room. Soon as I heard that I was off to take a look at it.

It was a nickel 3.5" post war 357 as promised. Was wearing nice stag stocks. Condition was well used with some wear but no serious abuse. I don't recall the asking price because as soon as I stopped to look the seller asked if I had anything to trade. I did. A Walther PPK. His eyes lit up at the sight of the Walther. Apparently he wanted it. He offered me the 357 in exchange for the Walther and $50 boot. I accepted. I had $250 in the PPK so it plus $50 made my cost for the 357 $300 and I thought it was worth that.

After guns and cash had traded hands he pulled out a surprise. He had the original numbered Magnas under the table. What I thought was a good deal suddenly became a great deal. I sold the stags for $150 making my final cost on the revolver $150.

It letters as you see it, in nickel with Magnas. It shipped to a hardware store in Charleston, West Virginia on September 20, 1950. Today is its 70th Birthday.

That is quite a gun! It is the earliest nickel Post War Pre 27 that I recall seeing.
