I have been downsizing my S&W collection, except for the same two models you show here. Both of these early models are keepers. The 22/32 was the start for S&W to make a heavy 22 for target shooting. The K22, in MHO, the ultimate for 22 target revolvers.

I was going to ask if the stocks on the Outdoorsman are correct. They are not. I removed the stocks and the serial numbers do not match. They look like post war stocks to me.
Thoughts?

You are correct. Pre-war magnas were "sharp shouldered" and had larger medallions. Those are not even early post-war models which were also sharp shouldered up until 1960 or so when the shoulder was softened to be more rounded.
Here's an example of early post-war magnas from 1948. The pre-war medallion was slightly larger than on these.

The answer would seem to be determinable (+/-) by ship date. K frame Magnas came into being in 1936. Those folks who have forgotten more than I know about such things tell me the K frame Magna design/appearance remained the same from 1936 to 1946, and given that to be the case, it explains why they look like post-war stocks to you-------and anybody else.
So-----------If (IF) your Outdoorsman was made after K frame Magnas were made, you're good to go-------assuming they look like early K frame Magnas; and I suspect the rather exhaustive article in the latest (and perhaps earlier) edition of SCSW will tell the tale.

All of my pre war magna stocks have a checkering border with sharp corners and the post wars have curved corners. The OP's revolver sure looks pre war with post war stocks to me. Pre war replacements will be expensive.

You're a flatterer Ralph! You know you know tons more than me. Remember, I've seen some of your collection and I would not even recognize some of those guns. Thanks to folks like you, I have managed to learn a few things and continue to learn new things every day. The knowledge here is awesome!
chiefdave is correct! Pre-war magnas are approaching $1K in top condition.

What is the serial number? That might narrow it down a bit.
Also since I maintain a database of the .22/32 HFT's I would love the details of the guns mentioned above if I don't already have them.

I would guess that it has non recessed chambers and a last patent date of 09. Condition appears to be very good.
Of the dozen guns that I have listed in the 253XXX serial block, the 9 that I have dates for all shipped between April and July of 1917.
