I'm guessing the gold is a "rub & buff" rub on gold. The Nickel plating is done outside the factory and the gun was heavily buffed. The frame has a 1 line address indicating it is a pre war, and has the barrel shaped ejector rod knob. The stag grips are not factory grips, but have a following.

More information would be needed to tell you much more, please see this link at the top of this section for the kind of information needed.

Looks like a plated Victory model to me. Revolvers made for government use during WWII.

Indeed. A US version of the Victory in .38 Special from around May 1943 (+/-).

The entire gun’s refinish was very rough, and the lanyard plug is the crudest one I’ve seen; there seems to be a lot of excess solder around it.

Looks like "Bubba" has been at it again! A home grown attempt at a BBQ gun using a surplus Victory Model. Sorry, it doesn't make the cut ! Ed

You are showing a nice set of vintage sambar stag grips there. If they are a good fit and otherwise not messed up --- $225 and up. I've bought a number of Rugers and Colts over years with sambar stag grips. Selling the grips made the guns free or very close to it !
