Finally got a 44 second model hand ejector
Been searching for a nice 44 special for awhile, came close to buying a 1950 44 target but that fell through. This second model I found seen some action back in its day with some normal carry wear but was well taking care of and obviously had a short lived career before living a sheltered life. The person who owned it before me got a letter and serial #27695 shipped in Feb.1927. It letters as having shipped with non medallion service grips of the 1920's style, unfortunately it came to me wearing a nice set of earlier gold medallion grips. I had the honor of fleabus101 a forum member sending me a nice set of roper style target grips made by Curt another forum member. Even though the gun is not a target version the grips set it off very nicely so they may live on that gun from now on, again thanks to Randy as the very kind forum member named fleabus101. What say you??

Looks like a good one. When do we get a range report? (I found my 2nd 44HE a very nice shooter despite it's finish).

The gun is in that sweet spot, not so nice I am afraid to touch it yet nice enough to still show. The range report will be coming in the next couple weeks. My range has carpet on the shooting benches at each station so I can shoot it plenty yet still retain the level of finish it has.

Very nice, I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do mine! I have two 2nd Model Hand Ejectors, one nickel and one blue, they are great shooters!

When I was first looking for a .44 Special, down in Alabamy, it seemed like all I could find were 6 1/2" 2nd Models with either flaking nickel or flaking re-nickel.

Here is the one that got me started (addicted) on 44 Specials. I sold it and moved on to 3rd Model Wolf & Klar and Triplelocks. They are addicting
This 2nd model shot better than I could.

Thanks for posting about your fine 44 special find! It prompted me to research some, and now I know why the 44 mag and spec measures 0.429. This is fun stuff to research

The Butterscotch Walnut Ropers from member Curt Harlow(44magget) craftsmanship
make a terrific combination on your 44HE.
Daddio has some fine early model N frame
Smiths. One day if I'm lucky I'll aquire a nice N Target model for using some Ropers from Curt.
They really make handling the N frames a pleasure!

OP and you have some really impressive specimens. A target at that!
I still love my ol gal, though she has a lot of wear, she still looks pretty good in ivory & stag! Smooth, accurate, & swiss movement!

Congrats...I like the 2nd Model ever bit as much as the 1st with a nod towards the more complicated machining of the 1st. I think the 2nd Model has a degree of elegance lost on the models with the ejector shroud. I need to get a better picture of this 2nd Model, its wearing Culina Coke Targets with fine line checkering. Mine does shoot better than my 4th Model, you will not be disappointed.
