Earliest known Regulation Police Target-AGAIN! See #17
Or, at least a tie for earliest ship date (May 1919) and lowest known S/N (27611X). Mechanicals are like new, all numbers matching, including the grips. Just a couple of small finish defects.
Late night pictures:

That's nice. A .32 Long? That sure is a high front sight.

That's a beauty. Was always on my want list, now that I am starting to dispose of a lot of mine, I have both .32 and .38 Regulation Police (not target),

The thought on the SWCA side is the first manufacturing run of Regulation Police targets were in the 2761XX series. I have a letter coming and would be curious if anyone else has lettered a 276XXX RP target.
Still looking for a 6" fixed sight RP.

I have a 32HE Mod 1903 Target, #230245, that shipped in January 1918.
My 6" .32 RP Tgt is much later, #379107, and shipped Sept. 1923.

Nice! I have to start looking for one. All my 1903 32s are fixed sights.

I really like yours with the older gold medallion stocks. My 6" .32 RPT Tgt has the later round top grips without medallions.
I have a very early .38 RP (#1993) with the gold medallions. This one shipped July 1917 and has lived in a sock drawer since.
I posted a thread on it about 5 years ago here: S&W .38 Regulation Police #1993

Yep. That's my other one (501705). I like the medallion stocks better too. IIRC this one is from around 1930 and has the LERK:

That is simply gorgeous! I missed out on a "pre-patent stamp" one a while ago and am still regretting it.

I have a .38 RP, 4", Blue, s/n 81, shipped April 1917. It is pretty rough and buried in the back of the safe. Pictures when I dig it out. I just realized this thread is about RP Targets. My earliest RP Target was shipped April, 1927. These two are .38 RP's, 4", #81, Blue, shipped April, 1917, and #215 Nickel, shipped July 1917

Same production run though. You can see they weren't big sellers.

2662XX
Almost 10,000 earlier than the one above. Shipped October 1917.
On the lookout for a front sight blade, but barrel, frame etc. match.
I'm wondering if there was a production run in the low 266XXX's like it appears there was one in the low 276XXX S/N's.

Great find! Congratulations on the score.
If there was a production run in the 266xxx range, it would have to have been a small one -- maybe 25 units and possibly only 10 or 15. Otherwise we would expect to have found more than just the one 266xxx specimen by now.
EDITED TO ADD: When this thread was new and focused on the RP targets in the 276xxx S/N range, I should have mentioned that I have 276254. That is kind of a high number in this context, but the revolver was one of the earliest shipped from this particular run -- May 1919.

Little bit of a necropost, but I'm happy to say that the 1917 RPT shoots POA with a 6 o'clock hold with the new sight installed.
Interestingly, it does not like S&B wadcutters, but does like LRN's from a variety of manufacturers.

From where were you able to acquire the front sight blade?

Yes he's been one of the better sources that I list, although he makes no effort to sell parts that I know of.

At one of the previous symposiums, I bought a King red post from George for my registered magnum. He has quite a few sight blades and they're not cheap. However, he gives a generous trade-in for your old sight.

Yes, 276131, May 1919, lettered and sold for less than I had hoped at RIA. It sold for $2335, nearly $500 less than I had paid for it. It was a 98% gun and one of my favorites. I was heart-broken when forced to sell the 25-year collection of S&W .32s.
