Default Call me lucky

Never expected to have one of these, certainly not this nice. The stars aligned so here it is. A huge thank you to RKmesa for offering it to me, and also to my wife for saying “just buy it”.
Reg number 2135 shipped March 29, 1937 to W.A. Harvey Sporting Goods Co. just as you see it.

I would suggest that not only are you lucky to have been given the offer to purchase but you are also very fortunate to have the funds available when it was offered to you.

Very nice.

It needs some Keith Brown grips!!! Wonder if he can squeeze in a set for you?

Congratulations!!! When the stars align and a Reg Magnum is waiting for you, it’s kinda hard to say no? Enjoy.

Now the elephant in the room... if you had to make one set of grips with any material to further complement said Magnum, what would you choose? Not that there is anything wrong with those Magnas... but you are our resident master craftsman and we’re all curious???

That's a nice one. Very nice.

Now I wonder what RKmesa bought with the money you gave him?

I hope you enjoy that one.

Many of us are really interested in what a talented custom grip maker will decide to put on his own Reg Mag!!

Will you go classic factory style ? OR Maybe you have a certain set of blanks put aside just for something you have wanted to do.

Congratulations on a most excellent wife! The gun is OK, too.
The first time I ever saw a Reg Mag in person, my wife also encouraged me to make the plunge... in fact insisted I call the guy to make sure he would hold it for me. Must say, excellent guns turn up every once in a while. That kind of wife is far rarer. Celebrate both!

Thanks fellas, no direct plan to change anything about it, but seeing how it’s wearing numbered factory grips.....er stocks I mean, the only upgrade I could really think of would be a set of ivory prewar style magnas. Although I do have some special Turkish walnut I’ve shod a few of my guns in.
Should clarify also that the gun and grips are all number matching, the box although the correct size and type carries a different number, I didn’t mind a bit as it’s my first blue picture box and a very nice one to boot.
The upside to that is I now have the correct numbered box to search for and also the correct numbered RM for this box !😂
Did not press my luck with my wife and tell her that.

It would probably be best to sleep with one eye open for a few nights just to be on the safe side.

As far as stocks go I was thinking beautifully colored elk horn magnas diamond checkered and medallioned just like the originals.

Can it be done?

Keith - your post in this thread makes me smile the big smile - almost as big a smile as when I open the mailbox and find a white grip-sized box sporting the return address of one Keith Brown...

I wonder how many different sets of stocks he's already had on it? You know playin' dress-up.

I have been trying so hard to not get the RM (or TL) bug. This thread doesn't help me in that regard.

I can't help but wonder how few Registered Magnums actually exchange hands on a yearly basis?

A lot of reg mags change hands every year. A typical Rock Island auction will have at least 5, and maybe 10 or more. Other auction companies have some, as well. A lot were released on the market when the S&W's in the estates of a couple of prominent S&W collectors were sold.

If she finds out how much RM empty boxes are worth you might be carving a pillow out of that Turkish Walnut to make the table saw more comfortable to sleep on.

Of course I’ll shoot it, once it’s back from the plating shop, got the grips sold and a guy wanting the box. Just a shooter now.

Actually plan on it, it has been shot so no real issue there, just a matter of deciding when. Maybe a box, have 27-2s to shoot, and in my hands I imagine the results would be about the same.

Bumper chrome or gold? I've got some nice Mershon grips that would look great on it! Beautiful gun!

I think I would have gone with cerakote. Dark earth maybe?? or, even more proper- they now have a Smith & Wesson tan.

Yeah, but is it registered toilet paper? For Pete's sake, don't lower your standards.

Mighty nice of you to part with a treasure like that RM.
