Pre-34 Kit Gun - nearly sprained my shoulder
I was at my local gun shop when I spotted this in the "used guns" area. "Used" seems to be a bit of a misnomer in this case. With a serial of 9025 (no prefix) the SCSW 4th Edition dates it to 1954. Matching serials in all the usual places except the grips.

It's evident that the J target grips have been on the gun quite a while, and it's also evident that it had worn magnas for quite a while too. But it cleaned up pretty well.

I could be wrong, but I think some of those earlier guns wore I frame magnas. Someone correct me.
Great find.

I paid that for one in worse shape, with worse grips, 5 years ago and got a good price then. I'd say you did pretty well for yourself.

Beautiful find.
Lots of good things can be found in the older shops where the kids do not want to be in the business and the owners think the Internet is the Devil's Playground
That is where I found this one several years back
I love these little pocket guns

Are you sure you shouldn't have told them that they underpriced that gun by several hundred dollars, just to be fair to them? Tongue firmly in cheek.....love it when a shop doesn't know what they have...great buy..

Interesting thing is that this was not a place that employs the ignorant, it's a nice, big established family run shop that has been in business for decades. I believe the key is that the gun was on consignment, so probably the owner just wanted it gone ASAP and they priced it accordingly. I've encountered a few other deals like that there so I check in from time to time.
On the flip side, they have a .32 Regulation Police priced at $600 that has been on consignment there for months.

Dang Tom! What a great find and an even better buy.
A model of 1953 built on the NEW I frame, and still has 4 screws; no trigger guard screw.
9025 is from very late 1954 or possibly early 1955.
Congrats and enjoy!

It's the NEW 1953 Model with larger trigger guard and 1/8" longer grip frame, same as the model of 1953 Chiefs Special. They both use the same size I/J Magna grips.
Before 1953 they also both used the same size I/J grips either the round top service style and then the mini Magnas, on the 1/8" shorter grip frame carried over from the pre war I frames.
