Smith Pre-25 Five Screw
I just purchased a Smith & Wesson Model of 1955 pre-25 45 acp five screw. Serial Number S1440XX. I "assume" the serial number puts it at late 1955. Maybe very early 1956. How many of these were made? I thought they stopped making the five screw models in 1956.

I believe you are correct about the 5 screw going to 4 in '56. S 144xxx would have been a pretty early .45 Target HB. Where are the pictures??

Mine is serial # S 143529 letters to Rex in New York and shipped Sept 22 1955 .

The directive to delete the upper side plate screw was issued on September 7, 1956 with 4-screw N-frames appearing early in 1957. Both 5-screw and 4-screw guns were shipped through mid-57 as the older style frames were used up.

I have S160419. Its a 5-screw that was shipped in January 1956.

I have 1666XX 5 Screw Model of 1955, it also has the W shaped hammer spring. I never lettered this one it has non-relieved diamond targets.
