Default Trigger question

I have a mod 48 and was wondering if minor wear on the case hardening on one side of trigger is normal? Thx in advanced for any advice.

Probably. Moving part that gets rubbed by a finger fairly constantly.

Looks like an internal part has a burr or is slightly mis-aligned and is rubbing the trigger. Maybe pull the side plate and find a corresponding shiney spot. Maybe a couple swipes with a honing stone could take care of that.

It's normal for a product produced at the lowest possible cost---rather than a product produced to be the best possible for the price--------as was the prevalent philosophy once upon a time.

This is known as progress in some circles.

I have seen a lot of rub marks like that on hammers and triggers.
It is only normal if you shoot the gun. Who does that with a M48?

It's from rubbing the underside of the side plate. This didn't happen on early 20th century Smith's when all the hammers and triggers had chafing bearings.

Since the elimination of chafing bearings, rub marks are hit and miss. That's why we early Smith advocates bemoan each and every time an early feature of panache was dropped, like the chafing bearings, 3rd lock, precise cyl/barrel alignment necessitating forcing cones, cyl hold open detent, extractor rod knobs, threaded action parts studs, trigger over travel adjustable stops, etc.

Of course they were all done in the name of cost savings to keep S&Ws affordable, and very justifiable at the time. But now with CNC machining and MIM preciseness cost savings, some of those features would be far less costly to reinstate.
