Outdoorsman That Was Not To Be
Spotted an Outdoorsman today that grabbed my attention. I've never had one before. Unfortunately it turned out to be a re-blue. Had the correct top strap, short throw hammer, etc. but the wear on the correct stocks just didn't match the rest of the gun, and very slight pitting on the barrel with blue in them. Uneven lines in the markings. Then there was the gold box. Oh well. Maybe next time

At least you did not get taken. There are plenty of people who would not look so closely and think they were getting an original piece.

Priced right I'd have bought it to drag around the woods , must have wanted too much for what it was ?

For a shooter, I don’t care if a gun has been reblued. For a collector piece I understand passing.

I don't disagree with this sentiment. However I must add to it slightly.
I find my poorly refinished guns just gall. Every time I pull one out to shoot it I just shake my head and am struck by the crime of the refinish.
There are enough guns out there that your gun's shouldn't be something you settle for. With a little patience and focus I think a guy's entire collection can be pleasing to them. Even the shooter grade guns.

I scratched that itch a few months ago. Good ones don’t come cheap but wow what a revolver!

He was down to $875. He must have known what he had. The gold K-22 box with some pink paper would have been nice to have, but I guess I would rather have spent more money for an original piece.

Never mentioned if this was a K22 Outdoorsman or a 38-44 Outdoorsman. If a 22, the gold box was incorrect. If a late 38-44, the box would probably had a picture of the revolver on the top. My K22 Outdoorsman is in it's original numbered red box. My pre war 38-44 is in its original numbered blue box. Big Larry

It was a .22. Grease pencil SN on the bottom of box had been rubbed off as well. Another thing that got me was the side plate was a little "wavy" (distorted).

I'm with you - no interest for a refinshed K22 Outdoorsman at $875 , box or no. I'd rather have a nicely worn original.
In fact , I have a nicely worn original , first year w/ gold dot. Nowhere near that price.
