Vintage S&W's in the Texas Ranger Museum
If any of you have the chance to visit the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco, TX. I can recommend it. There are a number of vintage S&W's on display, some that were carried by Rangers and some that were presented as gifts. I have included photos of a couple of Registered Magnums, an engraved Model 29, and a couple of rifles that were used in the "capture" of Bonnie and Clyde. In addition to many historical firearms there is a lot of Texas Ranger history, both the good and the controversial. Very interesting and entertaining.

One of the best museums in Texas. I, as well, highly recommend a visit. My last visit a few years ago, I met a retired Texas Game Warden who was a personal friend of some of these older Rangers. He gave me a personal tour of the museum, recalling personal stories of working with them, eating bbq with them, pistol matches with them and other stories that I will save for a later date.

It’s been a few years since my first and only visit to the Texas Rangers Museum, but I totally agree with OutWest50 and usmc2427765. If you get a chance definitely take the time to visit this museum!

Son and I visited the museum together a couple of years ago with another forum member. We did a few gun trades in the parking lot if I recall correctly. I had driven past the museum may times in the past on my way north but had never stopped in. It is a wonderful, well done museum. One featured subject is Capt. Dean who is a regular at the San Antonio Gun Show.

Even if you live nowhere near Waco and can’t visit in person:
The folks there are very helpful if you have collector-type questions about Texas law enforcement guns. I’ve e-mailed them a few times in years past about markings on purported Ranger guns and such and have gotten detailed and thoughtful answers back. You can find the e-mail on their website.

It is worth it to spend the day. I would love to hold a SW forum BBQ in the parking lot some day

Went a few times when I was stationed at Ft Hood in early 90's. Would love to go back if I ever get back down that way.

I agree, a must go if you have the time! Loved every minute of it.
CPT Manuel Trazazas “Lonewolf” Gonzaullas (1891-1977) - El Lobo Solo!
It sure was a different breed of men back then!

Haven't been there but been to the Museum in up by Amarillo. Nice stuff on oil rigs and a hell of a gun collection.

Love that Remington Model 8 35, I believe Frank Hamer’s Model 8 is also on display in the museum, pictures I’ve seen show his with the special order 20 round magazine instead of the standard 5 round. If memory serves it was a single 35 round to Clydes face that ended his days.
Always wanted a Model 8 35, just because of the history, but then reality always kicks in and I start to think it’s a morbid reason to buy a gun.

In reference to the first picture in the OP upper left hand corner:
Miriam 'Ma' Ferguson was the first woman governor in the US elected in a general election. She is a revered icon here in central Texas. Ten years ago, her home here in Temple was a dilapidated, ready to be condemned, 'mansion' on the north side of town. It was put up for sale for $85,000 in the early 2010's and after a $300,000 restoration it was brought to its previous glory in 2014.

Interesting piece of history. I had no idea she was harsh to the Rangers.
That being said, the Texas Rangers Museum should be a bucket list destination for anyone interested in firearms, law enforcement, or Texas history.

I think that he's talking about The Panhandle Plains Historical Museum in Canyon, Texas. It's one of the best museums in Texas.
